Through 2023, the Port of Corpus Christi had a record 203 million tons of cargo, cementing its status as the United States' largest gateway for crude oil exports and a top exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The 1919 Florida Keys hurricane (also known as the 1919 Key West hurricane) was a massive and damaging tropical cyclone that swept across areas of the northern Caribbean Sea and the United States Gulf Coast in September 1919. Remaining an intense Atlantic hurricane throughout much of its existence, the storm's slow movement and sheer size prolonged and enlarged the scope of the hurricane's effects, making it one of the deadliest hurricanes in United States history. Henry Pomeroy "Roy" Miller (March 27, 1883 – April 28, 1946), once the "boy mayor of Corpus Christi", was a Texas newspaperman, politician, and lobbyist influential in both the state capital Austin and national capital Washington, D.C. He represented sulphur interests in Texas. Early life As a boy, he worked as a soda jerk and had three newspaper routes in Houston, until he finished high school as valedictorian at age 15. He attended University of Chicago on a scholarship, waited tables, and tutored other students. He was among six lower division students to win a University Prize for excellence in declamation (summer, 1901) and took part in the Freshman Sophomore debate on whether England was right in the Second Boer War (March 15, 1902). He finished his four-year curriculum in three years. After college, he was a reporter (and railroad editor) at the Houston Post. The ''Corpus Christi Caller-Times'' is the newspaper of record for Corpus Christi, Texas. History There has been a newspaper in Corpus Christi for almost as long as there has been a town. In 1883, the ''Caller'' was started in a frame building at 310 North Chaparral, now the site of Green's Jewelers. Roy Miller was editor of the ''Caller'' 1907–1911, when it was an enterprise of the King Ranch; he sold his interest in it in 1929. Later, there was a newspaper called the ''Times''. Both were located on North Chaparral in 1920. In the late 1920s, the two were combined to become the ''Caller-Times''.
