Port Moresby Vipers
The Port Moresby Vipers (formerly the Port Moresby Bulldogs) are a Papua New Guinean rugby league team from Port Moresby. The team currently competes in the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition. History The club competed in the Panasonic Cup in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989. In 1990, they joined the new competition SP Cup where they won 3 premierships, up until 1995. They joined the Queensland Cup competition in 1996 and 1997. Due to the cost of transportation to and from Australia they were not invited to compete in the Queensland Cup for 1998. They returned to the SP Cup in 1999 for one season, before being demoted to the Port Moresby Domestic Competition. Another franchise Club that represented Port Moresby in the semi-professional competition was the Port Moresby Brian Bell Bulldogs. Stargroth Amean
Stargroth Amean (born 1991) is a Papua New Guinean professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Port Moresby Vipers. He was unable to return to the UK citing family reasons to play for Barrow Raiders in 2020 but remained under contract. He was part of the PNG Hunters team in 2017 which won the Queensland Cup. Primarily playing as a , Amean has represented the Papua New Guinean national team, most notably at the 2017 World Cup and the 2019 World Cup 9s. Stargroth's last match for PNG Hunters was on 1 April 2018 against Tweed Heads Seagulls in front of his home crowd in Port Moresby. Enoch Maki
Enock Maki (born 9 December 1989) is a Papua New Guinean rugby league footballer who previously played for the PNG Hunters in the Intrust Super Cup and also represented Papua New Guinea in the 2013 World Cup and 2017 Rugby League World Cup. Background Enock comes from the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea in a small village called Keltiga outside the provincial capital Mount Hagen. He is the third child in a family of four, his older brothers are Wilson and Junior Maki. Wilson Maki played for Mount Hagen Eagles in 2003, and was forced to quit due to injuries. Enock followed soon after and with his build he caught the eyes of the Eagles selectors and in 2008 he was the sought after player in the Digicel Cup competition.
