Port Cities is a Canadians, Canadian band based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Formed in 2015, Port Cities is composed of Dylan Guthro, Breagh Mackinnon, Breagh MacKinnon, and Carleton Stone —each already a child of a singer/songwriter with an established solo career. The band signed with turtlemusik/Warner Music in 2016 and released its debut album in 2017. History Guthro, Mackinnon, and Stone met in 2011 at the Gordie Sampson Song Camp, an annual event in Cape Breton Island, Cape Breton where they formed a friendship. Port Cities was formed in 2015. In 2016, the band was signed to turtlemusik/Warner Music; their debut album was released in February 2017. In 2016, Port Cities won Casino Nova Scotia's third annual Artist in Residence competition, which awarded them $20,000. Gordie Sampson
Gordon Francis Sampson (born July 30, 1971) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and producer from Big Pond, Nova Scotia. Beginning his career as a performer on his hometown island of Cape Breton, both in bands and on his own, Sampson has gone on to achieve international success as a songwriter in Nashville. He has written songs for Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Rascal Flatts. He has also released albums as a solo performer. Ria Mae
Ria MacNutt, known professionally as Ria Mae, is a Canadian singer and songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Career As a child, Mae's family moved around Halifax, switching from school to school while she learned to write songs. Ria has described herself as a teenager who spent hours in her bedroom writing songs and teaching herself how to play guitar while rarely sharing them with anyone else. "I was super shy and just kept it hidden," she says. "I used to write about relationships but I never had one. It was just imagination stuff." She wouldn't play those songs in front of a big crowd until shortly before high school graduation. Mo Kenney
Mo Kenney (born 1990) is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Catching the ear of noted Canadian rocker Joel Plaskett while still in school, Kenney released their first album in 2012, which Plaskett produced. Kenney is known for their lyrical prowess and engaging stage presence. Called "Nova Scotia's rising star" by ''The Scene'' magazine, they have toured with Plaskett as well as with Ron Sexsmith. In 2013, their song "Sucker" won the prestigious SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Background Kenney began playing guitar when they were 11. Dylan Guthro
Dylan Guthro (born 1991) is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The son of musician Bruce Guthro, Dylan released his debut album, ''All That's True'', in 2012. In 2015, Guthro teamed up with fellow Halifax singer-songwriters Carleton Stone and Breagh Mackinnon to form the band Port Cities. Life and career Dylan Guthro was exposed to music since birth as the son of Cape Breton singer-songwriter Bruce Guthro. Breagh MacKinnon (born January 17, 1991), known professionally as Breagh Isabel, is a Canadian recording artist, songwriter, and producer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has written for a variety of Canadian artists, including Banners, Donovan Woods, Classified, Jocelyn Alice, and Ria Mae. Life and career Born into a musical family on Cape Breton Island, Isabel began writing songs in high school. In college, she majored in jazz piano performance, while writing and recording music of her own. Carleton Stone
Carleton Stone is a Canadian singer-songwriter based in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. After recording three albums as a solo artist, Stone joined forces in 2015 with musicians Dylan Guthro and Breagh Mackinnon to form the pop band Port Cities. Life and career Stone was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He had a musical family and grew up listening to Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, and Bob Dylan, among others.
