Popular Front For The Rebirth Of Central African Republic
Popular Front for the Rebirth of Central African Republic (FPRC, french: Front populaire pour la renaissance de la Centrafrique) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls areas of the northern part of the country, until 2021 based in N'Délé. History The FPRC was formed on 10 July 2014 in Birao, consolidating the member forces' control over the northern prefectures. They were one of the parties of the February 2019 peace deal. In September 2019, they lost control of Birao. On 17 February 2020 FPRC fighters tried to recapture Birao by attacking local MINUSCA forces. Their attack was repelled and 12 fighters were killed. On 17 December 2020, an FPRC faction led by Noureddine Adam joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change, while the faction led by Abdoulaye Hissene remained committed to the 2019 peace agreement. Ndassima
Ndassima is a gold mine in Ouaka preferecture in Central African Republic. History From 2006 until 2012 it was owned by Canadian company AXMIN Inc. On 22 December 2012 Seleka rebels took control of Ndassima. In June 2013, heavy rains provoked the collapse of a gold mine in Ndassima, killing 37 miners and injuring many others. On 22 August a mine collapsed again killing at least 25 people. In 2018 it was reported that Popular Front for the Rebirth of Central African Republic, FPRC and Union for Peace in the Central African Republic, UPC armed groups share control over the Ndassima gold mining site In 2019 AXMIN Inc. the mining license to operate the Ndassima mine came into dispute. Bangassou
Bangassou is a city in the south eastern Central African Republic, lying on the north bank of the Mbomou River. It has a population of 24,447 (2003 census) and is the capital of the Mbomou prefecture. It is known for its wildlife, market, and nearby Bangassou Airport and is linked by ferry to the Democratic Republic of Congo on the south bank. The city is also home to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bangassou. Axmin Mining Camp and Kembé Falls are located in the area. Bakouma
Bakouma is a sub-prefecture in the prefecture of Mbomou in Central African Republic. The area is known for its prosperity of mineral resources which have for a long time remained unexploited. History Bakouma was founded in September 1892 when the Belgians, led by Commander Georges Adolphe Balat and Captain Georges Le Marinel set up a military post on the site. It became a part of the French Upper Oubangui in July 1894. Bakouma became a district under the French rule in 1944 and on 23 January 1961, the region eventually became a Sous-Préfecture in the Mboumo prefecture in the newly formed Central African Republic. . The Lengo Petroglyphs are located near Bakouma. In a uranium survey in 1959–1961, phosphatic sediments were discovered near Bakouma. Birao
Birao is the capital of Vakaga, one of the 14 prefectures of the Central African Republic and was an administrative post in the colony of Ubangui-Shari. In March 2007, the town was almost completely burnt down in the fighting between rebels and government troops in the area. History Under Bokassa Jean-Bédel Bokassa, the military ruler of the Central African Republic in the 1960s and 1970s, sent the family of Alexandre Banza to Birao after Banza attempted to overthrow him. Birao was isolated from the rest of the country and Banza's family was monitored by Bokassa. Banza's wife and nine children were kept in Birao until 1970.
