Popivka, Konotop Raion, Sumy Oblast
Popivka ( uk, Попівка; russian: Поповка, translit=Popovka) is a village in Konotop Raion, Sumy Oblast, Ukraine. It is the capital of Popivka rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population is 4,345 (). History Popivka was first mentioned in the first half of the 17th century. It became part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in November 1917. 1,103 residents of the village were killed during World War II by Nazi German forces. Popivka is locally notable for its "Journalist Street", which commemorates local journalists. Popivka, Okhtyrka Raion, Sumy Oblast
Popivka (), is a village in northeastern Ukraine, located in Okhtyrka Raion of Sumy Oblast. The village is on the banks of the Vorsklytsia River, and is located on the Russian-Ukrainian Border. History The exact date of the founding of the village was never known, but is estimated to be around late 18th century. In 1917, the village was captured by the Soviet army during the Russian Civil War, becoming part of the Soviet Union. During the Holodomor in 1932–1933, almost 300 residents in the village died as a result of mass starvation. During the German-Soviet War, the village was occupied by Wehrmacht forces from October 1941 to August 1943, when it was liberated by Soviet forces during the Soviet counteroffensive in northeastern Ukraine. In April 2022, even after the Russians' retreat from northern Ukraine, the Russian military fired shells into the village's vicinity. Smyrnove
Smyrnove () is a village in southern Ukraine, located administratively in Smyrnove rural hromada, Polohy Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Before 1946, it was known as Popivka (). Geography Smyrnove is located on the Verda river. It is located southeast of the town Kamianka. History Founding The village was founded in 1805 in the times of the Russian Empire by state peasants from the village of in Chernihiv Governorate. They named the village "Popivka" after their original hometown. Subsequent waves of migrants arrived over the following few decades, and the population rapidly increased, reaching 1,175 people by 1830 and 6,070 by 1886. 20th century On the eve of World War I, Popivka had a population of 11,200 people. Sluch (Ukraine)
The Sluch or Southern Sluch (, , , ) is a river, a right tributary of the Horyn, which flows through Ukraine. It has a length of 451 km and a drainage basin of 13,800 km2. The Sluch river takes its source in the Ukrainian province of Khmelnytskyi, and then flows through the Zhytomyr and Rivne oblasts, and flows briefly along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border before finally emptying into the Horyn.
