Pop's Cool Love
Pop's Cool Love was an American rock band from Los Angeles in the early 1990s, featuring multi-instrumentalist and street dancer Suga Pop, guitarist Mike Tyler, bassist Myles John O'Brien, keyboardist Jerry Cohen, and drummer Tal Bergman (later of Rock Candy Funk Party). They released the album ''A Man'' on Elektra Records in 1991, followed by a self-titled album in 1992. Their video for "Free Me" was directed by Tim Pope. Members of Pop's Cool Love were the backing band for LL Cool J, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and MC Lyte on a seminal 1991 episode of ''MTV Unplugged'', of which The Chi reviewer Kenji Jasper noted, "Its impact was immeasurable." Timothy Michael Pope (born 12 February 1956) is a film director most known for his music videos, for having directed feature films, and for a brief pop career. Early life and career Pope grew up in the north London suburb of Enfield. Both his parents were bankers, and he has a sister, Amanda. He always knew that he wanted to make films, boasting in an interview once, "Even my dreams came with dirt on them, like my Standard-8 movies". He attended St Andrew's primary school, Cecil Road, Enfield, and then went to St Michael's boarding school in Otford, Kent, returning to north London to attend Latymer Grammar School, Haselbury Road. He was the guitarist, singer, and principal songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground and had a solo career that spanned five decades. Lana Michele Moorer (born October 11, 1970), better known by her stage name MC Lyte, is an American rapper, DJ, actress and entrepreneur. It was formed in 2009 by drummer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus, who had previously released ''Grooove, Vol. 1'' in 2007.
