Pontcarral, Colonel D'empire
''Colonel Pontcarral'' or ''Pontcarral, Colonel of the Empire'' (French: ''Pontcarral, colonel d'empire'') is a 1942 French historical drama film directed by Jean Delannoy and starring Pierre Blanchar, Annie Ducaux and Suzy Carrier. Williams p.267-68 The film's sets were designed by the art director Serge Piménoff while the costumes were by Georges Annenkov. Synopsis Pontcarral, a colonel of the First French Empire, remains loyal to the memory of the deposed Napoleon. He struggles to accept the new France of the Bourbon Restoration and lives on his estate in the Dordogne. He enters into a complex relationship with his new wife. Following the July Revolution he is restored to his former rank and volunteers to serve in the Conquest of Algeria. Jean Delannoy
Jean Delannoy (12 January 1908 – 18 June 2008) was a French actor, film editor, screenwriter and film director. Biography Although Delannoy was born in a Paris suburb, his family was from Haute-Normandie in the north of France. He was a Protestant, a descendant of Huguenots, some of whom fled the country during the French Wars of Religion, and settled first in Wallonia. Afterwards, their name became De la Noye and then Delano family, Delano, who were on the second ship to immigrate to Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was a student in Paris when he began acting in silent films. He eventually landed a job with Paramount Studios Parisian facilities, working his way up to head film editor. In 1934 he directed his first film and went on to a long career, both writing and directing. French Conquest Of Algeria
The French invasion of Algeria (; ) took place between 1830 and 1903. In 1827, an argument between Hussein Dey, the ruler of the Deylik of Algiers, and the French consul escalated into a blockade, following which the July Monarchy of France invaded and quickly seized Algiers in 1830, and seized other coastal communities. Amid internal political strife in France, decisions were repeatedly taken to retain control of the territory, and additional military forces were brought in over the following years to quell resistance in the interior of the country. Algerian resistance forces were divided between forces under Ahmed Bey ben Mohamed Chérif at Constantine, primarily in the east, and nationalist forces in the Kabylia and the west. The French Revolution of 1830, also known as the July Revolution (french: révolution de Juillet), Second French Revolution, or ("Three Glorious ays), was a second French Revolution after the first in 1789.
