Political Animals And Animal Politics
''Political Animals and Animal Politics'' is a 2014 edited collection published by Palgrave Macmillan and edited by the green political theorists Marcel Wissenburg and David Schlosberg. The work addresses the emergence of academic animal ethics informed by political philosophy as opposed to moral philosophy. It was the first edited collection to be published on the topic, and the first book-length attempt to explore the breadth and boundaries of the literature. As well as a substantial introduction by the editors, it features ten sole-authored chapters split over three parts, respectively concerning institutional change for animals, the relationship between animal ethics and ecologism, and real-world laws made for the benefit of animals. Marcel Wissenburg
Marcel Wissenburg (born 1962) is a Dutch political theorist who is a Professor of Political Theory at Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands. Career Wissenburg studied political science and philosophy at the Radboud University Nijmegen (RU), where he then read for a PhD, graduating in 1994. He was a junior researcher at RU in the Faculty of Management Sciences from 1990 to 1994, then a postdoctoral research fellow (funded by the Netherlands Foundation for Scientific Research) at the same institution from 1995 to 1998. He became a Lecturer of Political Theory and the Philosophy of the Policy Sciences in 1997, and held this title until 2005. During this time, he taught in the University of Leiden's Department of Political Science and, from 1999-2000, at the University of Groningen. In political science, a political system means the type of political organization that can be recognized, observed or otherwise declared by a state. It defines the process for making official government decisions. Alasdair Cochrane
Alasdair Cochrane (born 31 March 1978) is a British political theorist and ethicist who is currently Professor of Political Theory in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield. He is known for his work on animal rights from the perspective of political theory, which is the subject of his two books: '' An Introduction to Animals and Political Theory'' (2010, Palgrave Macmillan) and '' Animal Rights Without Liberation'' (2012, Columbia University Press). His third book, '' Sentientist Politics'', was published by Oxford University Press in 2018. William Kymlicka (; born 1962) is a Canadian political philosopher best known for his work on multiculturalism and animal ethics. He is currently Professor of Philosophy and Canada Research Chair in Political Philosophy at Queen's University at Kingston, and Recurrent Visiting Professor in the Nationalism Studies program at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Sue Donaldson (also known as Susan Cliffe; born 1962) is a Canadian writer and philosopher. She is a research fellow affiliated with the Department of Philosophy at Queen's University, where she is the co-founder of the Animals in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Ethics (APPLE) research cluster. Biography Donaldson was born in Ottawa in 1962, and has lived most of her life in Eastern Ontario. She currently lives in Kingston, Ontario with her husband, Will Kymlicka. Robert Garner
Robert Garner is a British political scientist, political theorist, and intellectual historian. He is a Professor Emeritus in the politics department at the University of Leicester , where he has worked for much of his career. Before working at Leicester, he worked at the University of Exeter and the University of Buckingham, and studied at the University of Manchester and the University of Salford. Priscilla Cohn
Priscilla T. Neuman Cohn Ferrater Mora (; December 14, 1933 – June 27, 2019) was an American philosopher and animal rights activist. She was Emerita Professor of Philosophy at Pennsylvania State University, associate director of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, and co-editor of the centre's '' Journal of Animal Ethics''. Biography Cohn was born to Simon and Helen Neuman, one of five children, in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania, in 1933. She studied at Haverford Friends School, leaving early to study at Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr. In 1951, she eloped with Willard Cohn. Andrew Linzey (born 2 February 1952) is an English Anglican priest, theologian, and prominent figure in Christian vegetarianism.
