Pocopson Township is a township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,582 at the 2010 census. History There are indications that Pocopson Township was once named Kennet Township (not to be confused with Kennett Township), with the change happening before 1900. The Northbrook Historic District, Trimbleville Historic District, Lenape Bridge, and Wilkinson House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 1.43%, is water. Demographics At the 2010 census, the township was 81.6% non-Hispanic White, 8.4% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 4.3% Asian, 0.1% Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and 1.6% were two or more races. 4.4% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry. Eusebius Barnard
Eusebius Barnard (July 13, 1802 – October 2, 1865) was an American farmer and station master on the Underground Railroad in Chester County, Pennsylvania, helping hundreds of fugitive slaves escape to freedom. A minister of the Progressive Friends and founding member of Longwood Meeting House, Barnard championed women’s rights, temperance, and abolition of slavery. A Pennsylvania state historical marker was placed outside his home in Pocopson Township on April 30, 2011. Biography Born in Chester County in July 1802, Barnard was descended from English Quakers who settled the area in 1686. He attended the Westtown Boarding School and proved so gifted a student that his brother, Joseph Barnard, invited him to take over teaching the Locust Grove school. Trimbleville Historic District
Trimbleville, Pennsylvania, also known as Trimble's Ford and the Trimbleville Historic District is a hamlet of about six homes, in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, about two miles south of Marshallton. James Trimble first bought land in the area on the banks of the west branch of the Brandywine River in 1744, with his descendants living in the hamlet until 1948. Several buildings survive from the eighteenth century. Buildings in the area include the Trimble's farmhouse, a mill, blacksmith and wheelwright shops, and a boarding school. The area was listed by the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1985.
