Pocahaunted
Pocahaunted (often shortened by the band to P-haunt) was a hypnagogic pop project based in Los Angeles, California founded in 2005 by Amanda Brown and Bethany Cosentino. History Amanda Brown co-founded Not Not Fun Records in 2006; she and friend Bethany Cosentino (of Best Coast) formed the duo Pocahaunted the following year. The group has released over a dozen albums, a few EPs/singles, and several split releases, generally preferring the vinyl and cassette formats over compact disc. Their releases often have handmade/hand-painted artwork. The group has toured heavily since its inception and has had its music released by a wide array of experimental record labels, including ones based in Europe. They disbanded in August 2010. Music Pocahaunted's sound has undergone many stylistic shifts. Best Coast
Best Coast is an American rock duo formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009. The band consists of songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. Cosentino, a former child actress, began writing music as a teenager and was formerly a member of the experimentalist drone group Pocahaunted. After a brief stint at college in New York City, Cosentino returned to the West Coast and began recording lo-fi demos with Bruno, whom she met in the Los Angeles music scene. After a string of 7-inch and cassette-only singles, the band signed to Mexican Summer, who issued the band's debut, '' Crazy for You'', in 2010. It became an unexpected commercial success following Internet buzz surrounding the duo. Lewis Pesacov of Fool's Gold and Foreign Born produced, engineered and mixed the album. Cameron Stallones, better known as Sun Araw, is an American musician. Previously a member of the band Magic Lantern, he has released several albums of experimental music, including a collaboration with Jamaican reggae group The Congos. Hypnagogic pop (often abbreviated as h-pop) is pop or psychedelic music that evokes cultural memory and nostalgia for the popular entertainment of the past (principally the 1980s). It emerged in the mid to late 2000s as American lo-fi and noise musicians began adopting retro aesthetics remembered from their childhood, such as radio rock, new wave pop, light rock, video game music, synth-pop, and R&B. Recordings circulated on cassette or Internet blogs and were typically marked by the use of outmoded analog equipment and DIY experimentation. The genre's name was coined by journalist David Keenan in an August 2009 issue of ''The Wire'' to label the developing trend, which he characterized as "pop music refracted through the memory of a memory." Charalambides
Charalambides is an avant garde musical group originally from Houston, Texas, United States and lately of Austin, Texas. Formed in 1991 (under the short-lived name Mutual Admiration Society) by Tom Carter, Christina Carter and Kyle Silfer, they have followed in the footsteps of other Texas psychedelic music artists such as the 13th Floor Elevators, and Red Crayola. Later members include Jason Bill and Heather Leigh Murray, but the band has long considered itself primarily a duo between Tom and Christina Carter. The name of the band derives from the surname of a customer at the record shop where Tom and Christina met. "Make It Real" is a song by the American sibling group, The Jets, released as a single from their album, ''Magic'' in April 1988. Background Moana Wolfgramm of the Jets would recall: "'Make It Real' was given to us at the eleventh hour .e. last minute We needed a slow ballad henwe were finishing up the last tracks for the 'Magic' album.
