Poca Roca Cave is a cave in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. Cooper Willyams
The Rev. Cooper Willyams (June 1762 – 17 July 1816) was a clergyman and a British artist. Biography Willyams was probably born in Plaistow House in Essex. His father was a commander in the Royal Navy and his maternal grandfather was Captain Samuel Goodere who had been hanged for fratricide. Willyams was in France in 1784 when he also graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He obtained a master's degree from the same college in 1789 and in 1792 first revealed his artistic skills in ''A History of Sudeley Castle''. In 1793, he enlisted as chaplain on for its journey to the West Indies. In command were Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Grey and Vice Admiral Sir John Jervis. The crew were ravaged by yellow fever but managed to get the French to surrender at Fort St. Charles in Guadeloupe in the following year. Great Siege Of Gibraltar
The Great Siege of Gibraltar was an unsuccessful attempt by Spain and France to capture Gibraltar from the British during the War of the American Revolution. It was the largest battle in the war by number of combatants. The American war had ended with the British defeat at Yorktown in October 1781, but the Bourbon defeat in their great final assault on Gibraltar would not come until September 1782. The siege was suspended in February 1783 at the beginning of peace talks with the British. Martin's Cave
Martin's Cave is a cave in the British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It opens on the eastern cliffs of the Rock of Gibraltar, below its summit at O'Hara's Battery. It is an ancient sea cave, though it is now located over above the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It is only accessible because Martin's Path was constructed. Middle Hill Battery
Middle Hill Battery is an artillery battery in the British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is located on Middle Hill, Gibraltar, Middle Hill, at the northeastern end of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, just south of Green's Lodge Battery and Rock Gun Battery. The artillery battery, emplacement dates to 1727, when a single gun was mounted. By the turn of the twentieth century, six 10-inch rifled muzzle-loading guns were present at Middle Hill Battery. Green's Lodge Battery
Green's Lodge Battery is an artillery battery in the British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is located on the North Face of the Rock of Gibraltar at the northern end of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, above Farringdon's Battery. Also known as the Superior Battery, it was named after William Green (general), General Sir William Green, who served in Gibraltar for twenty-two years, most of them as the chief engineer of Gibraltar. In 1776, guns were first mounted on the battery, which also saw action during the Great Siege of Gibraltar. George Augustus Eliott, 1st Baron Heathfield, (25 December 1717 – 6 July 1790) was a British Army officer who served in three major wars during the eighteenth century. He rose to distinction during the Seven Years' War when he fought in Germany and participated in the British attacks on Belle Île (France) and Cuba. Eliott is most notable for his command of the Gibraltar garrison during the Great Siege of Gibraltar, which lasted from 1779 and 1783, during the American War of Independence. He was celebrated for his successful defence of the fortress and decisive defeat of Spanish and French attackers. Beefsteak Cave is a cave in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It is located in the south of the Rock, between Europa Point and Windmill Hill. Catalan Bay ( es, La Caleta) is a bay and fishing village in Gibraltar, on the eastern side of The Rock away from Westside. Etymology Although the origin of Catalan Bay's name is documented, a couple of theories co-exist.
