It is unique by its large flat grass covered summit, the slopes are dangerous in winter because of frequent avalanches which have claimed many lives. Veľká Fatra
Veľká Fatra (; also Great Fatra or Greater Fatra; hu, Nagy-Fátra) is a mountain range in the Western Carpathians in Slovakia. The Veľká Fatra lie to the southeast of the better known Malá (Lesser) Fatra mountains and are less developed, as well as being lower. Geology In the geomorphological system, it is a part of the Fatra-Tatra Area. It is situated approximately among the towns of Ružomberok, Harmanec, Turčianske Teplice and Martin. The Turiec Basin and the Lesser Fatra mountains are situated to the north west of the range and the Low Tatras mountains are in the east. It can be divided into seven parts: ''Šípska Fatra, Šiprúň, Lysec, Hôľna Fatra, Revúcke podolie, Zvolen and Bralná Fatra''. The highest mountain is Ostredok at . Martin District (''okres Martin'') is a district in the Žilina Region of central Slovakia. Its main cultural, economic and administrative seat is the city of Martin. Martin District is one of the most important cultural centers in Slovakia. Žilina Region
The Žilina Region ( sk, Žilinský kraj; pl, Kraj żyliński; hu, Zsolnai kerület) is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions and consists of 11 districts ( okresy) and 315 municipalities, from which 18 have a town status. The region was established in 1923, however, in its present borders exists from 1996. It is a more industrial region with several large towns. Ostredok
Ostredok (1,596 m above sea level) is the highest hill of the Great Fatra, at the same time in the National Park Veľká Fatra. It lies in the main ridge of the mountain. It has two peaks, the main southern (1,596 m above sea level) and a few meters lower north (1,593 m above sea level). The peaks are luminous, providing an undisturbed circular view. The slopes of Ostredok are smoothly modeled, steep, in winter there is a danger of avalanche dropping. The 49 km long Great-Frontier Highway is marked by the red tourist sign marked with a red tourist mark. In Slovakia there are up to six hills called Ostredok.
