Place d'Italie (, literally "''Italy Square''") is a metro station, rapid transit station of the Paris Métro located in the heart of the 13th arrondissement of Paris, at the Place d'Italie. It is the southern Terminal train station, terminus of Paris Métro Line 5, Line 5 and is also served by Paris Métro Line 6, Line 6 and Paris Métro Line 7, Line 7. Location The Place d'Italie was the site of the ''Barrière d'Italie'', a gate of in the Wall of the Farmers-General, built to enforce tax collections on goods entering Paris between 1784 and 1791, where the old Roman road towards Lyon and Rome began. Paris Métro Line 5
Paris Métro Line 5 is one of the 16 lines of the Paris Métro in Paris, France. It crosses the east of Paris from to . It is the eighth-busiest line on the network. History On 15 June 2011 the MF 2000, MF 01 began entering revenue service onto Line 5, gradually replacing the aging MF 67 stock. The initial announcement was made in 2006 and trains began to be tested during the course of late 2010 and early 2011. As of June 2013, only three to five MF 67 trains remain in service. There is also one MF 01 train for Line 9 (#096) that is in revenue service along Line 5. None of the Line 9 trains will enter revenue service on Line 9 until sometime in September 2013. Nation station () is a station of the Paris Métro and Île-de-France's RER commuter rail service. It serves Line 1, Line 2, Line 6 and Line 9 of the Paris Métro and RER A. It takes its name from its location at the Place de la Nation. Location The station is under and around Place de la Nation – each stopping point oriented along an east–west axis. The station of line 1 is in a curve, under the southern part of the square, enclosed between the loop stations of lines 2 and 6. The terminus of line 2 forms a loop under the square. The arrival on the loop is under Avenue de Taillebourg, and the departure under Avenue du Trône, Place des Antilles and Boulevard de Charonne. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are sometimes used between the opposite-direction tracks on twin-track route stations as they are cheaper and occupy less area than other arrangements. They are also useful within larger stations, where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be accessed from opposite sides of the same platform instead of side platforms on either side of the tracks, simplifying and speeding transfers between the two tracks. Campo Formio (Paris Métro)
Campo Formio () is a station on Line 5 of the Paris Métro, located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, under the Boulevard de l'Hôpital. History The station opened on 6 June 1906. The name refers to neighbouring Rue de Campo-Formio, named for the Treaty of Campo Formio signed in 1797 between France and Austria. France obtained Belgium, part of the left bank of the Rhine, the Ionian Islands, as well as the recognition of the Cisalpine Republic. German bombing in World War I damaged the station in 1918. Hector Guimard
Hector Guimard (, 10 March 1867 – 20 May 1942) was a French architect and designer, and a prominent figure of the Art Nouveau style. He achieved early fame with his design for the Castel Beranger, the first Art Nouveau apartment building in Paris, which was selected in an 1899 competition as one of the best new building facades in the city. He is best known for the glass and iron Aedicula, ''edicules'' or canopies, with ornamental Art Nouveau curves, which he designed to cover the entrances of the first stations of the Paris Metro. Between 1890 and 1930, Guimard designed and built some fifty buildings, in addition to one hundred and forty-one subway entrances for Paris Métro, Paris Metro, as well as numerous pieces of furniture and other decorative works. Between 1900 and 1913, Hector Guimard was responsible for the first generation of entrances to the underground stations of the Paris Métro. His Art Nouveau designs in cast iron and glass dating mostly to 1900, and the associated lettering that he also designed, created what became known as the Métro style (''style Métro'') and popularized Art Nouveau. However, arbiters of style were scandalized and the public was also less enamored of his more elaborate entrances. Place Monge () is a station on Line 7 of the Paris Métro and located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Location The station is located in the middle of the 5th arrondissement of Paris, under the Rue Monge to the north-east of the Place Monge. Oriented along a north-south axis, it is interspersed between the ''Jussieu'' and ''Censier - Daubenton'' metro stations.
