Pitch And Putt Union Of Ireland
Pitch and Putt Ireland, formerly the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland (PPUI), is the governing body for pitch and putt in Ireland. The sport of pitch and putt originated in Cork in the 1930s, and developed elsewhere in Ireland throughout the 1940s. Originally governed by two separate organisations (the Irish Amateur Pitch and Putt Union in Munster, and a separate later organisation in Leinster), these formed a "united union" in 1960. This new organisation, the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland, would later become a founding member of the European Pitch and Putt Association in 2000, and the Federation of International Pitch and Putt Associations from 2006. The organisation runs a number of national pitch and putt competitions within Ireland, as well as coordinating entries to international competitions. The Federation of International Pitch and Putt Associations (FIPPA) is one of the governing bodies for the pitch and putt in the world, along with the International Pitch and Putt Association (IPPA). It was created in March 2006 by the representatives of 17 national governing bodies and is based in Barcelona, Catalonia. Members include the pitch and putt unions of Ireland, Great Britain, Catalonia, The Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Chile, Andorra, Germany and the United States. Canada and China are associated members. FIPPA organizes a World Cup since 2004 and a World Strokeplay Championship since 2009. 2008 Pitch And Putt World Cup
The 2008 Pitch and putt World Cup was held on the Papendal course, close to Arnhem (Netherlands) and was the third edition for this championship promoted by the Federation of International Pitch and Putt Associations (FIPPA), with 14 national teams.
