Alan J. Pinkney (born 1 January 1947 in Battersea, Greater London) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League, as a forward. He began his league career with Exeter City in 1967, making seven appearances scoring once, before signing for Crystal Palace in July 1969. Pinkney made 24 appearances for Palace over five seasons, without scoring and had a loan spell with Fulham in 1972–73 (12 appearances, no goals). Jerry Pinkney (December 22, 1939 – October 20, 2021) was an American illustrator and writer of children's literature. Pinkney illustrated over 100 books since 1964, including picture books, nonfiction titles and novels. Pinkney's works addressed diverse themes and were usually done in watercolors. In 1994, Pinkney obtained the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award for the book '' John Henry'' and he has received five Coretta Scott King Awards for illustration. William Pinkney (March 17, 1764February 25, 1822) was an American statesman and diplomat, and was appointed the seventh U.S. Attorney General by President James Madison. Biography William Pinkney was born in 1764 in Annapolis in the Province of Maryland. His parents' home was on the banks of the Severn River, from where the family could see the Chesapeake Bay. Pinkney attended the private King William school. His teacher was a Mr. Brefhard. Although Pinkney left school at the age of thirteen, he had impressed his teacher with his intelligence, and Brefhard agreed to give the youth private lessons at home. Pinkney studied medicine (which he did not practice) and "read the law" with an established firm, as was the practice at the time for aspiring lawyers. He was admitted to the bar in 1786. Oxford English Limited (OEL) was a socialist- feminist group of undergraduate and postgraduate students campaigning for progressive reforms in the Oxford University English Faculty between 1982 and 1992. OEL's demands included the abolition of compulsory Anglo-Saxon and new optional papers in women’s writing and in literary theory. Oxford English Limited was created by Daniel Baron-Cohen, Ken Hirschkop and Robin Gable, with support from Terry Eagleton at Wadham College. It organised a programme of seminars, visiting speakers, conferences, debates, student questionnaires and campaigns in pursuit of its aims. Thomas Pinckney
Thomas Pinckney (October 23, 1750November 2, 1828) was an early American statesman, diplomat, and soldier in both the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, achieving the rank of major general. He served as Governor of South Carolina and as the U.S. minister to Great Britain. He was also the Federalist candidate for vice president in the 1796 election. Born into a prominent family in Charles Town in the Province of South Carolina, Pinckney studied in Europe before returning to America. He supported the independence cause and worked as an aide to General Horatio Gates. After the Revolutionary War, Pinckney managed his plantation and won election as Governor of South Carolina, serving from 1787 to 1789. He presided over the state convention which ratified the United States Constitution. Peter Pinkney (born 1956) is a British people, British trade unionist, who served as President of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) from December 2012 until 2015. Born in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Saltburn, Pinkney completed an apprenticeship as a welder and joined the Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers. He found employment at a steelworks in Middlesbrough, and became a junior shop steward. However, when the works closed in 1978, he was unable to find a new job in the industry and instead joined the Royal Navy, serving as a submariner. Following a five-year stint in the Navy, Pinkney studied at a polytechnic, and joined the Communist Party of Great Britain. Ninian Pinkney (17 June 1811 – 15 December 1877), also spelled Pinckney, born in the Hammond-Harwood House in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated from St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland, in 1829, and from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1833. He spent his entire naval career helping to develop the field of surgery and medicine. He was especially prominent—and praised—during the American Civil War. Miles Pinkney (1599–1674), alias Thomas Carre or Carr, was an English Roman Catholic priest of the Old Chapter. A point of contact for English Catholics with Cardinal Richelieu, some of whose works he translated, he was also a founder of the St Augustin convent in Paris. Life He was brought up at Broom Hall (now known as Broomhall farm), Ushaw Moor, in the bishopric of Durham. He was sent to the English College at Douai, was admitted among the clergy per tonsuram 13 June 1620, and was ordained priest by special dispensation 15 June 1625.
