Ping'an District () also known as Ping'anyi (), is an administrative district and the seat of the city of Haidong, in the east of Qinghai province of the People's Republic of China, located about east from Xining. Its postal code is 810600, and its population is 127,480, 29.4% of whom belong to Ethnic minorities. The area is known for its Selenium resources. During the Han dynasty it was known as Anyi County, and as Zhongge during the Tang dynasty, then as Pingrong and Ping'an during the Ming and Qing dynasty respectively. Taktser
Taktser or Tengtser (; meaning 'Place on the Heights'") or Hongya Village () is a village in , Ping'an District, Haidong, in the east of Qinghai province, China, (also known as Amdo or Kokonor). Tibetan, Han and Hui Chinese people populate the village which is notable as the birthplace of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. Taktser was originally an area of pasture land for the larger village of Balangtsa, about two hours walk away in the valley. Cattle were brought to feed on the fertile grazing lands in summer, which caused them to give very rich milk. Later, when people realized that this was also a good place to farm, permanent houses were built, and the village comprised about thirty cottages by the time Tenzin Gyatso was born in 1935. China National Highway 109
China National Highway 109 connects Beijing with Lhasa. It runs westwards from Beijing via Datong, Yinchuan and Xining to Golmud before turning southwest to Lhasa. The portion of the highway from Xining to Lhasa is known as the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. The total length of the route is 3,901 km. Fushi Road or Jinglan Road forms the stretch of G109 in Beijing, as it begins from Fuchengmen and traverses through Shijingshan. The majority of the Beijing section is in Mentougou District. The section of the highway within western Qinghai and Tibet, from Golmud to Lhasa, is paralleled by the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. The highway reaches its highest elevation of at Tanggula Pass. Haidong West Railway Station
Haidong (; Wylie: Haitung) is a prefecture-level city of Qinghai province in Western China. Its name literally means "east of the (Qinghai) Lake." On 8 February 2013 Haidong was upgraded from a prefecture () into a prefecture-level city. Haidong is the third most populous administrative division in Qinghai after Xining and Golmud. Haidong was historically populated by the Qiang people, although the area has been inhabited as early as 6000 years ago. In 121 BC the area was captured by Huo Qubing, defeating the Xiongnu. In 399 AD the Xianbei founded the state of Nanliang, with its capital in Ledu District. Geography Haidong is the easternmost division of Qinghai province.
