''Aquilino Pimentel III versus Juan Miguel Zubiri'' better known as ''Pimentel v. Zubiri'' is a SET Case No. 001-07 that resolved the election protest filed by Koko Pimentel after the proclamation of Juan Miguel Zubiri as senator after the 2007 Philippine Senate election. The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) on June 19, 2008, resolved to proceed with the election protest of Pimentel against Senator Zubiri: "Indeed, there is reasonable ground to believe that the outcome of the case could affect the officially proclaimed results of the 12th senatorial position in the 2007 Senate election, hence, the election protest case deserves further proceedings by the tribunal. Senate Electoral Tribunal
The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) is an electoral tribunal that decides election protests in the Senate of the Philippines. It consists of 6 senators nominated by the Senate, and 3 justices of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, who are designated by the Chief Justice. The equivalent tribunals for elections to the lower house is the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal and to president and vice presidents is Presidential Electoral Tribunal. The SET is located at SET-HRET Building, Commission on Audit Compound, Quezon City. Members of the Tribunal receive a monthly allowance of 100,000 Philippine pesos on top of their regular salary. Zaldy Uy Ampatuan (born August 22, 1967) is a Filipino convicted mass murderer and former politician. He is one of the main perpetrators of the Maguindanao massacre along with his father, brothers, and nephews. He served as governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) from 2005 until his suspension in 2009 due to his role in the massacre. He was a member of the ARMM Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998. As one of the sons of Andal Ampatuan Sr., he is part of a powerful political dynasty based in Maguindanao. Genuine Opposition
Genuine Opposition (GO) was an electoral alliance in the Philippines that contested the 2007 Philippine general election. The alliance's members were in opposition to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. It was originally called the United Opposition (UNO), founded by Makati mayor Jejomar Binay in June 2005 to unite all politicians who wanted to impeach President Arroyo. UNO then reorganized itself and changed its name to Grand and Broad Coalition (GBC), with the UNO party under that coalition. On February 15, 2007, the group changed its name again to Genuine Opposition after a meeting with Senate President Manny Villar due to the defection of senators Edgardo Angara, Teresa Aquino-Oreta, and Tito Sotto to Arroyo's senatorial slate, TEAM Unity. Together Everybody Achieves More (TEAM) Unity was an electoral alliance in the Philippines that contested the 2007 Philippine general election. TEAM Unity's candidates were supporters of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her administration. The alliance sought to win several Senate and House seats to protect Arroyo from impeachment attempts. Politicians who opposed the Arroyo administration formed their own electoral alliance, Genuine Opposition (GO), to challenge TEAM Unity. In the Senate election, TEAM Unity won only 3 of the 12 contested seats. In 2011, as a result of an electoral protest, TEAM Unity's Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri lost his seat to GO's Koko Pimentel. The 2004 election of members to the Senate of the Philippines was the 28th election to the Senate of the Philippines. It was held on Monday, May 10, 2004, to elect 12 of the 24 seats in the Senate.
