Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan
Pilot Butte (; cr, script=Latn, Otasawâpiwin ), meaning "lookout point", is a town in southeast Saskatchewan. Situated between Highway 46 and the Trans-Canada Highway, the town is part of the White Butte region and neighbours Balgonie, White City, and the province's capital city, Regina. As of the 2021 Canadian census, Pilot Butte had a population of 2,638, an 23% growth from 2016. The town is governed by the Pilot Butte Town Council and is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Edenwold No. 158. Pilot Butte is located in Treaty 4 territory. Prior to European arrival, local Indigenous peoples camped near Boggy Creek and used the butte as a lookout point. European settlement began in the area in the 1840s, and Pilot Butte was established in 1882. Pilot Butte (Oregon)
Pilot Butte is a lava dome that was created from an extinct volcano located in Bend, Oregon. It is a cinder cone butte which rises nearly above the surrounding plains. Bend is one of six cities in the United States to have a volcano within its boundaries. The other examples are Mount Tabor in Portland, Oregon, Jackson Volcano in Jackson, Mississippi, Diamond Head in Honolulu, Glassford Hill in Prescott Valley and Pilot Knob in Austin, Texas. The Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint, presented as a gift to the State of Oregon in 1928, is a Bend icon. Pilot Butte itself is a popular hiking destination with two trails to the summit, each gaining about in elevation. There is also a trail around the base of the butte. A scenic road also winds up and around the cone. In 2018, the park was the most visited Oregon state park east of the Cascade Mountains. The central portion of the mountain, from Rock Springs, Wyoming White Mountain is a long mountain located in central Sweetwater County, Wyoming, near the cities of Rock Springs and Green River. The mountain is part of the Green River Formation, and contains communications towers that serve a number of purposes. Rock Springs Massacre
The Rock Springs massacre, also known as the Rock Springs riot, occurred on September 2, 1885, in the present-day United States city of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Rock Springs in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. The riot, and resulting massacre of Chinese Americans, immigrant Chinese miners by White Americans, white immigrant miners, was the result of racial prejudice toward the Chinese miners, who were perceived to be taking jobs from the white miners. The Union Pacific Coal Department found it economically beneficial to give preference in hiring to Chinese miners, who were willing to work for lower wages than their white counterparts, angering the white miners. Pilot Butte Dam (National ID # WY01381) is a dam in Fremont County, Wyoming. The earthen dam was constructed in 1926 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, with a height of 64 feet (19.5 km), and a length of 55 feet (16.8 km) at its crest. It provides offstream storage for flood control and irrigation water as part of the larger Riverton unit of the extensive Pick–Sloan Missouri Basin Program. The dam is owned by the Bureau, and operated by the Midvale Irrigation District.
