Piet Bleeker
Piet Bleeker (27 August 1928 – 31 January 2018) was a Dutch long-distance runner, specialised in running the marathon. He became Dutch champion four times, and also earned two national titles in the 25 km category. Career Start of Athletics career Bleeker was born in Heerhugowaard, and started his athletics career in 1951 by registering with the Alkmaarse Olympus. In 1956 Bleeker was transferred to Av Lycurgus in Krommenie because the athletics facility was better, and because he was employed in the linoleum factory there. He also met his future wife, Jo Dujin, in Krommenie. Due to his marriage and relocation to Beverwijk, he then had himself transferred to the Beverwijk DEM on 1 January 1962. Piet Keizer
Petrus Johannes "Piet" Keizer (14 June 1943 – 10 February 2017) was a Dutch professional footballer who played as a left winger. As part of the " Total Football" Ajax Amsterdam team of the 1960s and 1970s, Keizer was particularly notable during the successive managerial tenures of Rinus Michels and Stefan Kovacs (1965–1973). He is widely considered one of the greatest players in Dutch football history. Dutch writer Nico Scheepmaker once said: " Cruyff is the best, but Keizer is the better one". Club career Keizer totalled 490 official matches for Ajax, scoring 189 goals between 1961 and 1974. Petrus Jacobus Joubert (20 January 1831 – 28 March 1900), better known as Piet Joubert, was Commandant-General of the South African Republic from 1880 to 1900. He also served as Vice-President to Paul Kruger from 1881 - 1883. He served in First Boer War, Second Boer War, and the Malaboch War. Early life Joubert was born in the district of Prince Albert, British Cape Colony, a descendant of a French Huguenot who fled to South Africa soon after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV. Left an orphan at an early age, Joubert migrated to the Transvaal, where he settled in the Wakkerstroom district near Laing's Nek and the north-east corner of the Colony of Natal. Petrus Jozef Sietse "Piet" de Jong (; 3 April 1915 – 27 July 2016) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Catholic People's Party (KVP) now the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and naval officer who served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 5 April 1967 to 6 July 1971. De Jong applied at the Royal Naval College in Den Helder and graduated as an Ensign in the Navy and joined the Submarine Service. During World War II he served on the submarine HNLMS ''O 24'' as First Officer and later as Commanding officer and saw action in both the Battle of the Atlantic and the Pacific War. After the War De Jong served as a staff officer and commanded a frigate and destroyer. Piet Huyg (19 March 1951 – 6 December 2019) was a Dutch footballer who played as a defender. He played 349 games with HFC Haarlem, mostly in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. Piet Pieterszoon Hein (25 November 1577 – 18 June 1629) was a Dutch admiral and privateer for the Dutch Republic during the Eighty Years' War. Hein was the first and the last to capture a large part of a Spanish treasure fleet which transported huge amounts of gold and silver from Spanish America to Spain. The amount of silver taken was so big that it resulted in the rise of the price of silver worldwide and the near bankruptcy of Spain. Early life Hein was born in Delfshaven (now part of Rotterdam), the son of a sea captain, and he became a sailor while he was still a teenager. During his first journeys he suffered from extreme motion sickness. In his twenties, he was captured by the Spanish, and served as a galley slave for about four years, probably between 1598 and 1602, when he was traded for Spanish prisoners. Piet Hein (16 December 1905 – 17 April 1996) was a Danish polymath (mathematician, inventor, designer, writer and poet), often writing under the Old Norse pseudonym Kumbel, meaning " tombstone". His short poems, known as '' gruks'' or grooks ( da, gruk), first started to appear in the daily newspaper ''Politiken'' shortly after the German occupation of Denmark in April 1940 under the pseudonym "Kumbel Kumbell". He also invented the Soma cube and the board game Hex. Biography Hein, a direct descendant of Piet Pieterszoon Hein, the 17th century Dutch naval hero, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied at the Institute for Theoretical Physics (later to become the Niels Bohr Institute) of the University of Copenhagen, and Technical University of Denmark. Piet Hartman
Piet Hartman (11 April 1922 – 26 March 2021) was a Dutch Crystallography, crystallographer, who worked as professor at Leiden University and Utrecht University between 1973 and 1987. Career Hartman was born in Veendam on 11 April 1922. He studied physical chemistry at the University of Groningen. Hartman subsequently obtained his title of Doctor (title), doctor under professor P. Terpstra at the same university on 18 December 1953, with a dissertation titled: "Relations between structure and morphology of crystals". He became a lector of crystallography at Leiden University in 1959. In 1973 he was named full professor and he continued to work at Leiden University until 1980. In 1978 he was named professor of crystallography at Utrecht University, where he would work until his retirement in 1987.
