Niccolò Piccinni
Niccolò Piccinni (; 16 January 1728 – 7 May 1800) was an Italian composer of symphonies, sacred music, chamber music, and opera. Although he is somewhat obscure today, Piccinni was one of the most popular composers of opera—particularly the Neapolitan opera buffa—of the Classical period. Life Piccinni was born in Bari, in the Apulia region. From the age of fourteen, he was educated at the S. Onofrio Conservatory by Leonardo Leo and Francesco Durante,. thanks to the intervention of the Bishop of Bari (his father, although himself a musician, was opposed to his son following the same career). Piccinni's first opera, ''Le donne dispettose'', was produced in 1755 with the patronage of Prince Vintimille. In 1760 he composed, at Rome, the ''chef d'œuvre'' of his early life, '' La Cecchina, ossia la buona Figliuola'', an ''opera buffa'' with a libretto by Goldoni, which "enjoyed a two-year run in Rome and was played in all the important European capitals. Louis Alexandre Piccinni (variously Louis Alexandre, Luigi Alessandro or Lodovice Alessandro) (10 September 1779 – 24 April 1850) was a prolific music composer born in Paris of Italian ancestry. Alexandre Piccinni was born in Paris. The grandson of the Italian composer of symphonies, sacred music, chamber music, and opera, Niccolò Piccinni, and the son of Giuseppe Luigi Piccinni, Louis was already giving piano lessons at age 13. He studied piano, and later attended the Conservatoire where he studied composition from Jean-François Le Sueur. He was accompanist at the Théâtre Feydeau, and from 1802 at the Opéra-Comique. From 1803 to 1816, he was conductor of the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin, and from 1804 to 1818 accompanist in the chapels of Louis XVIII at the court. Augusto Piccini (born May 8, 1854 in San Miniato, † April 15, 1905 in Florence) was an Italian chemist. Biography He was born in 1854 as the son of the president of the local court Francesco Piccini and his wife Elisabetta Boninsegni. Piccini had two brothers, Giulio (1849-1915), journalist and author of crime stories, and Giovanni (1851-1903), lawyer and since 1900 Member of the Camera dei deputati of the Kingdom of Italy. Piccini attended from 1872 a course in pharmacy at the Istituto di Studi Superiori di Firenze, and then he studied chemistry at the Royal University of Padua, which he completed in 1876. Stanislao Cannizzaro appointed him in 1880 at the age of 26 as an assistant to his chair of general chemistry in Rome, where he was a colleague of Giacomo Luigi Ciamician. Isabella Piccini (born Elisabetta Piccini 1644-1732) was an Italian artist and nun. She worked in the mediums of etching, engraving, and illustration. Life and work Piccini was born in Venice in 1644. Her father was etcher and engraver Giacomo Piccini. He trained Piccini in engraving and illustration in the style of the great masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Titian. Piccini became a Franciscan nun in 1666, joining the Convent of Santa Croce.
