Pholidapus Dybowskii
''Pholidapus'' is a monotypic genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Stichaeidae, the pricklebacks and shannies. Its only species is ''Pholidapus dybowskii'' which is found in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Taxonomy ''Pholidapus'' was first proposed as a monospecific genus in 1897 by the American ichthyologists, the brothers, Tarleton Hoffman Bean and Barton Appler Bean when they described a new species, ''Pholidapus grebnitskii'', from Japan. ''P. grebnitskii'' was later shown to be junior synonym of ''Centronotus dybowskii'' which had been described in 1880 by Franz Steindachner from the Gulf of Strielok near Vladivostok in Russia. This taxon is placed in the subfamily Opisthocentrinae within the family Stichaeidae by some authorities, while others treat the subfamily as a valid family, the Ophistocentridae. Tarleton Hoffman Bean (October 8, 1846 – December 28, 1916) was an American ichthyologist. Biography and education Tarleton Hoffman Bean was born to George Bean and Mary Smith Bean in Bainbridge, Pennsylvania, on October 8, 1846. He attended State Normal School at nearby Millersport, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1866. He received an M.D. degree from Columbian University, now George Washington University, Washington, DC, 1876. In 1883, he was awarded an M.S. degree from the Indiana University on the basis of his professional accomplishments, although he did not attend classes there. He married Laurette H. van Hook, daughter of John Welsh VanHook, a local Washington businessman, in 1878 in Washington, DC. ''Pholis'' is a genus of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Pholidae, the gunnels. These fishes are found in shallow coastal waters of the North Pacific, Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans. Taxonomy ''Pholis'' was first proposed as a genus in 1777 by the Italian naturalist Giovanni Antonio Scopoli. The type species was later designated to be ''Blennius gunnellus'', which Linnaeus had described in 1758 in the 10th edition of the ''Systema Naturae''. The genus is the only genus in the monotypic subfamily Pholinae, one of two subfamilies in the family Pholidae. Benedykt Dybowski
Benedykt Tadeusz Dybowski (12 May 183331 January 1930) was a Polish naturalist and physician. Life Benedykt Dybowski was born in Adamaryni, within the Minsk Governorate of the Russian Empire to Polish nobility. He was the brother of naturalist Władysław Dybowski and the cousin of the French explorer Jean Dybowski. He studied at Minsk High School, and later medicine at Tartu (earlier Dorpat) University in present-day Estonia. He later studied at Wroclaw University and went on expeditions to seek and study oceanic fishes and crustaceans. He became a professor of zoology at the Warsaw main school. In 1864 he was arrested and condemned to death for taking part in the Polish January Uprising. His sentence was later reduced to 12 years in Siberia.
