''Philly '76'' is a live album by Frank Zappa, recorded on October 29, 1976 at the Wachovia Spectrum, Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and released by the Zappa Family Trust on December 21, 2009 to commemorate Frank Zappa's 69th birthday. It is the fourth installment on the Vaulternative Records label that is dedicated to the posthumous release of complete Zappa concerts, following the releases of ''FZ:OZ'' (2002), ''Buffalo (Frank Zappa album), Buffalo'' (2007) and ''Wazoo (album), Wazoo'' (2007). History The live band featured on the recording included Bianca Odin on vocals and keyboards, who only toured with Zappa's band for a few weeks in the fall of 1976. One cut from this concert ("Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station") was released on ''You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 6'' in 1992. The Jay Hawks
The Vibrations were an American soul vocal group from Los Angeles, California, active from the mid-1950s to 1976. Most notable among the group's hit singles were " My Girl Sloopy" (1964) and "Love in Them There Hills" (1968). They also had a hit with the up-tempo song “Surprise party for baby” (1971) in the UK on the Northern Soul scene. The quintet's members included Don Bradley, Carl Fisher, Dave Govan, James Johnson and Ricky Owens. Terry Bozzio
Terry John Bozzio (born December 27, 1950) is an American drummer best known for his work with Missing Persons, U.K., and Frank Zappa. He has been featured on nine solo or collaborative albums, 26 albums with Zappa and seven albums with Missing Persons. Bozzio has been a prolific sideman, playing on numerous releases by other artists since the mid-1970s. He was inducted into the '' Modern Drummer'' Hall of Fame in 1997. Patrick O'Hearn
Patrick John O'Hearn (born September 6, 1954) is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and recording artist. Known primarily as a bass guitarist and keyboardist, O'Hearn came to prominence with Frank Zappa and co-founded the early 1980s new wave band Missing Persons with several other veterans from Zappa's bands. Eddie Jobson
Edwin Jobson (born 28 April 1955) is an English musician who has been a member of several progressive rock bands, including Curved Air, Roxy Music, U.K. and Jethro Tull. He was also part of Frank Zappa's band in 1976–77. Noted for his keyboard work, Jobson has also gained acclaim for his violin playing. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 Progressive Music Awards. In March 2019 Jobson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Roxy Music. Ray Shirley White Sr. is an African Americans, African American soul music, soul vocalist and rock and blues guitarist, best known as a member of Frank Zappa's touring ensembles. He was drafted into Zappa's band in late 1976, being featured on rhythm guitar and vocals, forming a vocal harmony partnership with Ike Willis on later tours in 1980 and 1984. "Muffin Man" is a song recorded live by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. It appears on his 1975 mostly live album ''Bongo Fury'' made with Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet). Background The song begins with studio-recorded spoken word lyrics delivered by Zappa and is followed by the refrain, chorus. The song was inspired by the traditional nursery rhyme, "The Muffin Man". The song closes the album, as well as the 1995 compilation ''Strictly Commercial,'' and was also used as a finale in concerts for many years afterwards. The song's tone was compared to Jimi Hendrix's style. Camarillo Brillo
"Camarillo Brillo" is a song by Frank Zappa and The Mothers and was first included on his 1973 LP '' Over-Nite Sensation''. The song's lyrics include many colloquialisms and made-up words. The title itself is a pun; Zappa mispronounces Camarillo, the name of a city in California, to rhyme with brillo, "shining" or "brilliant" in Spanish. The meaning of the song is open to different interpretations. The first two lines state "She had that Camarillo Brillo, flaming out along her head." The "Brillo" could simply refer to a woman's fuzzy or curly hair. It might also refer to hair resembling that of a patient who just underwent shock therapy. The latter would be consistent with the fact that Camarillo was once the site of the Camarillo State Mental Hospital, which operated from 1936 to 1997. "Find Her Finer" is a 1976 single by Frank Zappa from the album ''Zoot Allures''. The song was recorded with Zappa's lips extremely close to the microphone, creating an intimate sound. "Advance Romance" is a Frank Zappa song originally from his live album with Captain Beefheart, '' Bongo Fury''. "The Torture Never Stops" is a song by Frank Zappa from the 1976 album ''Zoot Allures''. New York Dolls
New York Dolls were an American rock music, rock band formed in New York City in 1971.
