The Philippines women's national volleyball team represents the Philippines in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Philippine National Volleyball Federation since 2021. Philippines' highest achievement was they qualified and competed in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in 1974 edition, where they finished at 18th place. History The Philippine national team was formerly organized and sanctioned by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF), originally known as the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation (PAVA) from 1961 to 2003. The team was a regional powerhouse in Southeast Asia having won gold medals at the 1977, 1979, 1981, 1985, 1987 and 1993 editions of the Southeast Asian Games. 1981 Southeast Asian Games
The 1981 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 11th Southeast Asian Games, was a multi-sport event held in Manila, Philippines from 6 to 15 December 1981. This was the first time that the Philippines hosted the Games since its first participation in 1977, and by that, the Philippines became the sixth nation to host the SEA Games after Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. More than 2,200 athletes and officials had participated in the Manila SEA Games. The event was officially opened by President Ferdinand Marcos, and the cauldron was lit by Benjamin Silva-Netto. The colourful opening ceremony was held in the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Roger Gorayeb
Roger Gorayeb is a Filipino volleyball coach and former college player. He is noted for being a multi-titled and longtime coach of the San Sebastian College – Recoletos de Manila women's team of the NCAA. Career Gorayeb has served as head coach of the San Sebastian College women's volleyball team. Under Gorayeb's watch, San Sebastian grabbed 11 consecutive championships for the women's team from 1986 to 1997, 22 women's volleyball titles, 6 titles in women's beach volleyball and 11 in junior's volleyball. Gorayeb started his coaching career as a player-coach in 1984, when he was tasked to lead San Sebastian's men's team when their Australian coach left the team. The 1995 Southeast Asian Games ( th, กีฬาแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ 1995, Kila haeng echeiy tawan oak cheing tai 1995), officially known as the 18th Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 9 to 17 December 1995. It was the first time that a non-capital city hosted the biennial sports event. Chiang Mai is the second Thai city to host the Southeast Asian Games after Bangkok. Thailand Women's National Volleyball Team
The women's national volleyball team of Thailand ( th, วอลเลย์บอลหญิงทีมชาติไทย) represents the Thailand in international volleyball competitions. It is managed by the Thailand Volleyball Association. The team won a silver medal in the 2016 Montreux Masters, the best finish by any team outside the Americas, East Asia and Europe. 1991 Southeast Asian Games
The 1991 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 16th Southeast Asian Games, was a multi-sport event held in Manila, the Philippines from 24 November to 3 December 1991, with 28 sports featured in the games. This was the second time that the country hosted the games and its first since 1981. It was officially opened by President Corazon Aquino at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila through a colorful opening ceremony. It was the only SEA Games at that time where the overall championship was heavily contested. The deciding medal came from the last sporting event - women's marathon where Indonesia got the gold medal. Four sports (archery, canoeing, sailing, and triathlon) were held in venues in Subic Bay. Stanislav Lugailo ( ua, Станіслав Антонович Люгайло; 1 January 1938 – 11 April 2021) was a Ukrainian volleyball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1964 Summer Olympics. In 1964, he was a squad member of the Soviet team which won the gold medal in the Olympic tournament.
