Philip Moore, Baron Moore Of Wolvercote
Philip Brian Cecil Moore, Baron Moore of Wolvercote, (6 April 1921 – 7 April 2009) was Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom from 1977 to 1986. He was educated at the Dragon School, Cheltenham College, then Brasenose College, Oxford, and served in RAF Bomber Command during World War II. He played one match for the international rugby union team, against in the 1951 Five Nations Championship. Moore was then Private Secretary from 1957 to 1958, to the 10th Earl of Selkirk in the latter's capacity as First Lord of the Admiralty. He was Deputy British High Commissioner (and acting HC) in Singapore, 1963–65, and back in the UK, Chief of Public Relations of the Ministry of Defence 1965–66. He was then Assistant Private Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II from 1966 to 1972, then as Deputy until 1977 and as Private Secretary to the Sovereign until 1986. Philip John Moore (born 30 September 1943) is an English composer and organist. Early life Moore was born in London and attended Maidstone Grammar School. Career After studying at the Royal College of Music, he was Assistant Music Master and Organist at Eton College. He became Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral in 1968. He was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Guildford Cathedral in 1974. He succeeded Francis Jackson in 1983 as Organist and Master of the Music at York Minster, a post he held until his retirement in 2008. In 2015 he began a two-year term as President of the Royal College of Organists. Honours In 2016, the Archbishop of Canterbury awarded him the Cranmer Award for Worship "for his contribution to the English choral tradition as a composer, arranger and performer". Philip Henry Moore
Philip Henry Moore (February 22, 1799 – November 21, 1880) was a businessman and political figure in Canada East. He was born in Rhinebeck, New York, in 1799 and came with his parents to Missisquoi County in Lower Canada in 1802. He studied at an academy in St. Albans, Vermont, and became a merchant at Bedford after spending some time farming. In 1829, he was named commissioner of small causes for the seigneury of Saint-Armand and a registrar for Missisquoi County. He served in the local militia and took part of the defence of Moore's Corner (later Saint-Armand-Station) during the Lower Canada Rebellion. He was named to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada after the Union Act of 1840 united Upper and Lower Canada. Moore chaired the commission to compensate residents of Lower Canada for losses suffered during the rebellion. Philip Moore (1853–1902) was a United States Navy sailor and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor. Biography Born in 1853 in Newfoundland, Moore immigrated to the United States and joined the Navy from Rhode Island. By September 21, 1880, he was serving as a seaman on the . On that day, while ''Trenton'' was at Genoa, Italy, he and Seaman John Russell jumped overboard and rescued Ordinary Seaman Hans Paulsen from drowning. For this action, both Moore and Russell were awarded the Medal of Honor four years later, on October 18, 1884. Moore's official Medal of Honor citation reads: For jumping overboard from the U.S.S. ''Trenton'', at Genoa, Italy, 21 September 1880, and rescuing from drowning Hans Paulsen, ordinary seaman. Philip Moore (1705 - 1783) was a Manx clergyman and scholar who a central figure in the translation of the Bible in to the Manx language. He was born in 1705 to Robert Moore and his wife Catherine Kelly.
