Phil Gallagher (Australian Footballer)
Philip Gallagher (born 1955?) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Norwood Football Club in the South Australian National Football League The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Originally formed as the ... (SANFL). He is the son of Sam Gallagher, who also represented Norwood. Outside of football, Gallagher worked as a chartered accountant. After retiring as a player, he served as a League director and club chairman of Norwood from 1996 to 1999. Gallagher became a member of the South Australian Football Commission in 2000 and currently serves as the Commission's Deputy Chairman. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Norwood Football Club, nicknamed the Redlegs, is an Australian rules football club competing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in the state of South Australia. Its home ground is Coopers Stadium (Norwood Oval), which is often referred to as "The Parade".
