Petrie State School is a heritage-listed state school at 42 Dayboro Road (Brisbane Woodford Road), Petrie, City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Francis Drummond Greville Stanley and Robert and John Ferguson, and built in 1878 and 1888 by the Queensland Department of Public Works. It is also known as Pine River North State School, North Pine River Provisional School, and North Pine State School. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 10 October 2014. History Petrie State School opened in 1879 as Pine River North State School, replacing two "half-time" provisional schools that had begun operating to the south and north of the North Pine River in 1874 and 1875 respectively. Petrie is a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Petrie had a population of 8,674 people. Geography The southern boundary of the suburb is marked by the North Pine River. Sweeney's Reserve
Sweeney's Reserve is a heritage-listed park at Old Dayboro Road, Petrie, City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 11 December 2008. History Sweeney's Reserve is a picnic ground located on the banks of the North Pine River in the suburb of Petrie to the north of Brisbane. It was used as a rafting ground in the early period of the timber getting industry. Later, the Brisbane to Gympie Road crossed the North Pine River here and the park contains the remains of this road. The remnants of timber bridge piles are located in the adjacent reach of the river. Between World War I and World War II it became a popular picnic and bathing spot maintained by Terence Patrick Sweeney, the owner of small kiosk in the reserve. The picnic ground is named after him. History The former Carbrook State School, now a high-set timber and iron building, was originally named Gramzow Provisional School when constructed in 1877. The area around Carbrook was originally called the Logan District after Captain Patrick Logan who discovered the Logan River in 1826. The Separation of Queensland was an event in 1859 in which the land that forms the present-day State of Queensland in Australia was excised from the Colony of New South Wales and created as a separate Colony of Queensland. The North Coast railway line is a 1067 mm railway line in Queensland, Australia. It commences at Roma Street station, Brisbane, and largely parallels the Queensland coast to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The line is electrified between Brisbane and Rockhampton. Cobb & Co was the name used by many successful sometimes quite independent Australian coaching businesses. The first was established in 1853 by American Freeman Cobb and his partners. The name Cobb & Co grew to great prominence in the late 19th century, when it was carried by many stagecoaches carrying passengers and mail to various Australian goldfields, and later to many regional and remote areas of the Australian outback. The same name was used in New Zealand and Freeman Cobb used it in South Africa. Although the Queensland branch of the company made an effort to transition to automobiles in the early 20th century, high overhead costs and the growth of alternative transport options for mail, including rail and air, saw the final demise of Cobb & Co.
