Jean-Antoine Petipa
Jean-Antoine-Nicolas Petipa (16 February 1787, Paris – 28 July 1855, Saint Petersburg) was a French ballet dancer and the father of Marius Petipa. Life Aged 8 he was in the revived production of the ballet ''Psyché'' by Pierre Gardel, put on at the Opéra de Paris five years earlier. His débuts are only known from the programme of ballets and in a petition addressed by his father to the minister of the interior in 1799 with a view to obtaining one year's leave for his children, who were studying at the Opéra's dance school. Shortly afterwards young Petipa was enrolled in the troupe of Filippo Taglioni which criss-crossed Europe from 1807 after the closure of many Parisian theatres by imperial decree. The troupe set up a base in Kassel from 1810 to 1812 but left this city when France invaded Prussia on the eve of the invasion of Russia. Lucien Petipa
Lucien Petipa (December 22, 1815 – July 7, 1898) was a French ballet dancer in the early 19th century (Romantic period), who was the brother of Marius Petipa, the famous ballet master of the Russian Imperial Ballet. He was born in Marseilles and died in Versailles. The son of Jean-Antoine Petipa, he was the original interpreter of many of the principal male roles during the Romantic era, working with choreographers such as Jean Coralli among others. Probably the most known role he created was Albert, duke of Sliesa (later to be known as count Albrecht) in the two-act ballet of ''Giselle'' in 1841, opposite the Italian-born ballerina Carlotta Grisi for whom the ballet was created. Between 1860 and 1868 he was '' maître de ballet'' at the Paris Opera and between 1872 and 1873 he ran the La Monnaie theater in Brussels.Ivor Guest. Marius Petipa
Marius Ivanovich Petipa (russian: Мариус Иванович Петипа), born Victor Marius Alphonse Petipa (11 March 1818), was a French ballet dancer, pedagogue and choreographer. Petipa is one of the most influential ballet masters and choreographers in ballet history. Marius Petipa is noted for his long career as ''Premier maître de ballet'' (''First Ballet Master'') of the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres, making him Ballet Master and principal choreographer of the Imperial Ballet (today known as the Mariinsky Ballet), a position he held from 1871 until 1903. Petipa created over fifty ballets, some of which have survived in versions either faithful to, inspired by, or reconstructed from the original. Mariia Surovshchikova-Petipa
Mariia Sergeyevna Surovshchikova-Petipa (27 February 1836 – 16 March 1882) was prima ballerina to the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres and wife of the noted choreographer Marius Petipa. Life Mariia Sergeyevna Surovshchikova was born in St. Petersburg, the illegitimate daughter of a milliner. She studied at the St. Petersburg Imperial Ballet School, graduating in 1854. After her graduation from the institute she entered into the ''corps de ballet'' of the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre, and in 1854 married Marius Petipa, who at that time served as ''premier danseur'' to the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres. Upon her marriage she took the name of Surovshchikova-Petipa. Her rise to the rank of ''Ballerina'' coincided with Petipa's own rise from fledgling choreographer to ballet Master of the Imperial Theatres. Nikolai Radin
Nikolai Mariusovich Radin ( Russian: Николай Мариусович Радин; 15 December 1872 – 24 August 1935) was a Russian stage and silent film actor and director. Biography Radin was born as Nikolai Mariusovich Kazankov on 15 December 1872 to Marius Mariusovich Petipa, an actor, and Mariya Kazankova, a dressmaker. Nikolai was a grandson of the famous choreographer Marius Petipa. His parents never married. Radin received his education at Faculty of Law, Saint Petersburg State University in 1900. Fascinated by the theater, he began his career as a stage actor. Gradually he became known for being a dramatic actor. For many years, he and his second wife, actress Yelena Shatrova, worked as actors at the theater Korsch in Moscow.
