Peter Thomson (golfer)
Peter William Thomson (23 August 1929 – 20 June 2018) was an Australian professional golfer. He won the Open Championship five times between 1954 and 1965. Thomson is the only golfer in the modern era to win a major three times in succession – The Open in 1954, 1955 and 1956. Life Thomson was born in Brunswick, a northern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. His Open Championship wins came in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, and 1965. He was the only man to win the tournament for three consecutive years in the 20th century. Thomson was a prolific tournament champion around the world, winning the national championships of ten countries, including the New Zealand Open nine times. He competed on the PGA Tour in 1953 and 1954 with relatively little success (finishing 44th and 25th on the money list), and after that was an infrequent competitor. Peter Thomson (born 1948) is a Fijian diplomat and the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, and President of the United Nations General Assembly from September 2016 until September 2017. He served as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations February 2010 to August 2017, with concurrent duties as Fiji's Ambassador to Cuba. In his capacity as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the UN, in 2014, Thomson served as president of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Office of Project Services. In the same capacity, in 2013, he took responsibility for Fiji's Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, the UN's largest negotiating group, made up of 133 developing countries. Peter David Thomson (born 30 June 1977 in Bury, England) is a former professional footballer. Career Thomson began his career with Bury 1995. He joined Lancaster City in the summer of 1998, having spent a season with Chorley, and made an immediate impact in the Northern Premier League and his impressive scoring form of 24 goals in 28 appearances earned him a move to Dutch side NAC Breda for a five figure fee. He made five premier league team appearances for the Dutch side without scoring. Thomson joined Luton Town in 2000. In two seasons at Kenilworth Road he made 11 League appearances, scoring 3 goals. Peter Ashley Thomson (19 March 1936 – 15 January 2010) was an Australian Anglican priest, best known for influencing Tony Blair, the future British prime minister, while they were both at St John's College, Oxford.Anthony Seldon, Blair (The Free Press, 2005) He also influenced Geoff Gallop, who later became Premier of Western Australia. His thought was deeply influenced by the Scottish philosopher John Macmurray. Thomson studied for the priesthood at Ridley College, an evangelical theological college in Melbourne, but became more radical in his Christianity and passionate about politics as a way for Christians to achieve their social objectives. After several jobs, Thomson attended Oxford to study for two years, where a group of undergraduates gathered around him and were influenced by his approach to politics. Peter Donald Thomson (1872–1955) was a Scottish minister who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1934. Life He was born in Glasgow. He was educated at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. He studied divinity at Glasgow University then studied at the Free Church College in Glasgow. He was ordained as a minister in the Free Church of Scotland in 1897, his first charge being the newly built Peterculter Free Church near Aberdeen. After a short time in Kirkcaldy, he joined the United Free Church of Scotland and moved to Kelvinside (Botanic Gardens) in western Glasgow. The church was remodelled internally by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1909 under the umbrella of the Glasgow firm of Honeyman and Keppie.
