Peter Rost (handball Player)
Peter Rost (born 29 June 1951 in Leipzig, East Germany) is a former German Team handball player; today he works as a coach and an official in this sport. His biggest success was winning the Olympic gold medal as the captain of the national team of East Germany in Moscow in 1980. Rost played for SC Leipzig nationally. All in all, he played internationally for East Germany 216 times, scoring 339 goals. He was in the team that came in second in the World Men's Handball Championship 1974 in their own country. As a coach, he was responsible for the women's team from Frankfurt/Oder, the men's team of SC Magdeburg (1998/99) and of ThSV Eisenach (2001–2003). In 2006 he joined the management of German handball club Concordia Delitzsch. He is married to Christina Rost, who was an international player for East Germany's women's handball team, and who won a World Championship and Olympic silver and bronze medals in the 1970s. Handball at the Summer Olympics refers to two different sports. Field handball was introduced for men at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, but dropped after that. At the 1952 Olympics, field handball was a demonstration sport. (Indoor) handball was introduced for men at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Women's handball competition was introduced at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Christina Rost
Christina Rost ( Mäbert, born 14 August 1952 in Chemnitz, East Germany) is a German former women's team handball player. She had her biggest success with the national team of East Germany, winning the women's world cup in 1975, the Olympic silver medal in 1976 in Montreal and, four years later, the Olympic bronze medal in Moscow. Rost played for SC Leipzig nationally. She played 170 international matches for East Germany. She is married to Peter Rost, another team handball player and Olympic gold medalist. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it.
