Peter Price (born 17 August 1949 in Wrexham) is a Welsh former professional footballer (soccer player) who played professionally in England during the 1960s and 1970s. Career Early career Price was one of that generation who bridged the gap between terminological eras, beginning his career as an inside forward and ending it as a striker despite playing a similar role throughout. He began his career as a youth at Liverpool, signing a full-time professional contract in 1966. Peterborough United In 1968, having failed to break into the Liverpool first team, he joined Peterborough United, for whom he scored 62 goals in 119 appearances. Portsmouth In 1972, Price signed for Portsmouth. Hampered by a back injury, he struggled to establish himself in the side, eventually leaving Fratton Park to return to his former club two years later. Fratton Park is a football ground in Portsmouth, England, which is the home of Portsmouth F.C. Fratton Park remains as the only home football ground in Portsmouth FC's entire history. The early Fratton Park was designed by local architect Arthur Cogswell and built in 1899 on the site of a market garden in Milton, a Portsea Island farming village. In 1904, Milton and the rest of Portsea Island became part of Portsmouth. Fratton Park's Portsea Island location means it is uniquely the only football ground in English professional football which is not on the mainland of Great Britain. Vetch Field
The Vetch Field was a football stadium in Swansea, Wales. It was used for football matches and was the home ground of Swansea City until the club moved to the newly built Liberty Stadium in 2005. Opened in 1912, the ground held around 12,000 at the time of its closure, but upwards of 30,000 at its peak. As well as being home to the Swans, the Vetch also hosted games for the Wales national football team, with 18 internationals played at the Vetch between 1921 and 1988. Other sports also found a home at the Vetch, with 8 rugby league matches played there between 1990 and 1999. In 1960, local boy Brian Curvis beat the Australian boxer George Barnes at the Vetch to win the Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight title.
