Peter N. Fedorov
Peter N. Fedorov (born 1951) is a Ukrainian astronomer, specialist in astrometry and Galactic dynamics, known for his work on compiling the XPM star catalogue and determining the inertial coordinate system in the Milky Way. Head of the head of the Laboratory of Astrometry at Kharkiv Observatory, professor of the Department of Astronomy and Space Informatics at the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Soledar
Soledar ( uk, Соледа́р, ; ), formerly known as Karlo-Libknekhtovsk ( uk, Карло-Лібкнехтівськ, Karlo-Libknekhtivs'k, 1965–1991), is a city in the Bakhmut Raion, which is located in what is internationally recognised as the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. The city lies from Bakhmut, and its population was 10,490 in January 2022. Since 11 January 2023, the city has reportedly been controlled by Russia, which considers the city to be part of its Donetsk People's Republic. History During the second half of the 17th century, the Don Cossacks settled in the region of Donbas. They built a village at the site of Soledar and named it Brіantsіvka (). In 1924, it was renamed to Karlo-Libknekhtovsk, and in 1965, after merging with nearby villages, received the status of a town. The Milky Way is the galaxy that includes our Solar System, with the name describing the galaxy's appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye. Astrometry
Astrometry is a branch of astronomy that involves precise measurements of the positions and movements of stars and other celestial bodies. It provides the kinematics and physical origin of the Solar System and this galaxy, the Milky Way. History The history of astrometry is linked to the history of star catalogues, which gave astronomers reference points for objects in the sky so they could track their movements. This can be dated back to Hipparchus, who around 190 BC used the catalogue of his predecessors Timocharis and Aristillus to discover Earth's precession.
