Peter Moore (Queensland Politician)
Francis Peter Moore (born 9 March 1938) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Moore was born at Mareeba, Queensland, the son of Charles Moore and his wife Mary Amelia (née McDowall). He was educated at the St Thomas's Convent, Mareeba, St Theresa's Agricultural College, Abergowrie, and St Augustine's College, Cairns before attending the University of Queensland. He became a school teacher and taught at Mareeba State School in 1957 before coming a science master, teaching at Queensland state secondary schools. In 1957 he was a National Service trainee in the Australian Army. On 2 January 1960 Moore married Elaine Maureen Martin with the marriage producing a son and a daughter. Electoral District Of Mourilyan
Mourilyan was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1950 to 1992. First created for the 1950 state election, the district was based in north Queensland, centred on the town of Mourilyan, taking in areas previously belonging to the abolished district of Herbert. Mourilyan was abolished by the 1991 redistribution, necessitated by the one vote one value reforms, taking effect at the 1992 state election. Its territory was divided between the neighbouring districts of Hinchinbrook and Tablelands. The National Party of Australia – Queensland (NPA-Q), commonly known as Queensland Nationals, or the National Party of Queensland, was the Queensland-state branch of the National Party of Australia (NPA) until 2008. Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 17 May 1969 to elect the 78 members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The Country-Liberal Coalition won its fifth consecutive victory since it won government in 1957. It was also the Coalition's first victory under new leader Joh Bjelke-Petersen after the brief premierships of Gordon Chalk and Jack Pizzey, who in turn had succeeded Frank Nicklin when he had retired the previous year. Conscription in Australia, also called mandatory military service or National Service, has a controversial history dating back to the first years of nationhood. Military conscription was abolished by Australian law in 1972. Australia currently has provisions for conscription, only during times of war if it is authorised by the governor-general and approved within 90 days by both houses of Parliament, as outlined in Part IV of the Defence Act 1903. Therefore, given the Governor-General acts upon advice of the federal government, conscription could be enacted by parliament even without bipartisan support, as long as the Bill is not blocked by the Senate. Saint Augustine's College, known locally as "Saints", is a Catholic boys' high school in Parramatta Park, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Saints houses boarders both from its own students and girls from Saint Monica's High School, also in Cairns. History In 1930 the Marist Brothers established the school for boys.
