Pete Alexander
Grover Cleveland Alexander (February 26, 1887 – November 4, 1950), nicknamed "Old Pete", was an American Major League Baseball pitcher. He played from 1911 through 1930 for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938. Early life Alexander was born in Elba, Nebraska in the first term of President Grover Cleveland and was one of 13 children. Alexander played semi-professional baseball in his youth, signing his first professional contract at age 20 in 1907 for $50 per month ($ in current dollar terms). In 1909, he played for the Galesburg Boosters in the Class D Illinois–Missouri League and went 15–8 that year with a 1.36 ERA. His career was almost ended when he was struck by a thrown ball while baserunning. Peter Alexander, (19 September 1893 – 18 June 1969) was a Scottish literary scholar. He was Regius Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Glasgow and a noted Shakespearean scholar. His collected works of Shakespeare are known as "the Alexander text". In 1914, he joined the army as a private in the Cameron Highlanders but left in 1918 after he became an artillery officer. Alexander returned to the University of Glasgow to finish his studies and graduated in 1920 with an MA degree. Peter Alexander (February 27, 1939 – May 26, 2020) was an American artist who was part of the Light and Space artistic movement in southern California in the 1960s. He is notable for his resin sculptures from the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and education Alexander was born in Los Angeles on February 27, 1939, and was raised in Newport Beach. His family had been residing in Southern California for four generations and operated oil fields. He originally intended to go into architecture. Alexander worked from his mother's dining room table during the early days of the Peter Alexander brand. He initially sold directly to department stores. When a store cancelled an order for 2,000 pairs of pyjamas in 1990, in desperation, he took out a mail order advertisement in ''Cleo'' magazine.
