Peter A. Munch
Peter Andreas Munch (December 19, 1908 – January 10, 1984) was a Norwegian-born sociologist, educator, and writer. In 1948, he immigrated to the United States as a post-doctoral research fellow studying Norwegian-American rural sociology in the Midwest. He ended his professional career at Southern Illinois University, with a focus on graduate studies and sociological research based on trips to the remote South Atlantic island Tristan da Cunha. Biography Peter Andreas Munch was born December 19, 1908, at Nes in Hedmark, Norway. He studied theology at the University of Oslo receiving a Candidatus theologiæ degree in 1932. Henrik Bull
Henrik Bull (28 March 1864 – 2 June 1953) was a Norwegian architect and designer. Among his works are the Paulus Church at Grünerløkka in Oslo, the National Theater, the Historical Museum in Oslo, and the Government Building. He also designed coins for Norges Bank, and participated at the Kristiania Jubilée exhibition at Frogner during 1914. He directed the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1912 to 1934. Georg Andreas Bull (26 March 1829 – 1 February 1917) was a Norwegian architect and chief building inspector in Christiania (now Oslo) for forty years. He was among the major architects in the country, and performed surveying studies and archeological research. Background Bull was born in Bergen, Norway as the youngest of 10 siblings. Andreas Munch
Andreas Munch (19 October 1811 – 27 June 1884) was a Norwegian poet, novelist, playwright and newspaper editor. He was the first person to be granted a poet's pension by the Parliament of Norway. Personal life Munch was born in Christiania, as son of poet, priest and later Lutheran Bishop Johan Storm Munch and his wife Else Petronelle Hofgaard. He was married to Charlotte Amalie Juul from 1844 until her death in 1850. One of his sons also died in 1850, and a second son died a few years later. In 1865 he married Danish citizen Anna Marie Amalie Raben. He died in Vedbæk in Denmark in 1884. Career Munch made his literary debut in 1836 with the poetry collection ''Ephemerer'' (''Ephemera''). Kristine Munch
Kristine Munch (10 July 1873 – 11 October 1959) was a Norwegian physician. She was among the first female physicians in Norway. She was born in Horten as a daughter of priest Johan Storm Munch (1827–1908) and Kaja Michaeline Falch (1830–1898). She had seven siblings, and was a granddaughter of poet Johan Storm Munch, Sr. and a niece of poet and playwright Andreas Munch. She was a second cousin of painter Edvard Munch, and historian Peter Andreas Munch was a cousin of her father. Johan Storm Munch (evangelist)
Johan Storm Munch (21 October 1827 – 13 August 1908) was a Norwegian minister who served as pastor to pioneer Lutheran churches in southern Wisconsin from 1855-1859 before returning to Norway and becoming a popular evangelist. Background Munch was born in Kristiansand, the son of Lutheran Bishop Johan Storm Munch. The bishop died when the son was only four, leaving the family without an income. However, the Munchs belonged to the cultured social class in Norway, which meant that the younger Johan Storm was expected to get a higher education despite his family's impoverished situation. Johan Storm Munch (31 August 1778 – 26 January 1832) was a bishop in the Church of Norway. He was also known as a poet, playwright, and magazine editor. Munch was born at Vågå in Oppland county, Norway. He was the son of parish priest Peter Munch (1740–1802) and Christine Sophie Storm (1746–1825). He was educated for the ministry principally by his father. From 1800–1805, he was a private tutor for members of the Løvenskiold noble family at Løvenborg in Zealand in Denmark.
