Perth And District Collegiate Institute
Perth & District Collegiate Institute (PDCI), or more commonly referred to as "PD", is the oldest secondary school in the town of Perth, Ontario. It is part of the Upper Canada District School Board. PDCI was previously known as Perth Collegiate Institute (PCI), Perth High School, and Perth Grammar School. It is located at 13 Victoria Street, Perth, Ontario, K7H 2H3. The school facilities include a science lab, art room, drama room, music room, gymnasium, football field, running track, auto shop, wood shop, weight room, fitness centre, cafeteria, auditorium, library, smartboard equipped classrooms, computer labs and a multimedia centre. Perth is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Tay River, southwest of Ottawa, and is the seat of Lanark County. History The town was established as a military settlement in 1816, shortly after the War of 1812. The settlement of Lanark County began in 1815. In that year "the Settlement forming on the Rideau River" as it was officially referred to (and which soon became known as "Perth Military Settlement") began to function under Military direction. The settlement was named Perth in honour of acting Governor-General Sir Gordon Drummond, whose ancestral home was Perthshire. Several townships were surveyed to facilitate the location of farms for military and other settlers; and the site of the future Town of Perth, which had been chosen as the headquarters of the Military Establishment was surveyed in 1816. Sultana Frizell
Sultana Frizell (born 24 October 1984) is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the hammer throw. Frizell currently trains under the guidance of Derek Evely in Kamloops, British Columbia. She competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Frizell is the former Commonwealth Games champion in the hammer throw and Commonwealth Games record holder for the event as well. Career Frizell was born in Perth, Ontario and started her athletic career in figure skating before taking up track and field in high school. While attending Perth and District Collegiate Institute, she competed in the shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer throw. Michael Andrew Brown (born May 5, 1984) is a Canadian former competitive swimming (sport), swimmer. He started swimming at age seven and was a student at the University of Calgary. Brown's dream was to become an olympian for Canada and it became true when he qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He broke the 200-meter breaststroke Canadian record and placed 6th. His best finish at a world championships was at the 2005 championships in Montreal, when he finished 2nd in the 200-metre breaststroke. Billy Smith (ice Hockey)
William John Smith (born December 12, 1950) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He won four Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders and was the first goalie to be credited with a goal in the NHL. In 2017 Smith was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history. Floyd Smith
Floyd Robert Donald Smith (born May 16, 1935, in Perth, Ontario) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre and coach. Biography Smith grew up in Galt, Ontario, playing junior hockey with the Galt Black Hawks. He made his National Hockey League debut for the Boston Bruins, playing 3 games with the team in 1955, but he was mostly mired in the minors during the early portion of his career. He played 23 games with Boston over the next two seasons, while serving as a significant contributor on the Hershey Bears club. Smith then spent five years with the New York Rangers organization, reaching the NHL for a 29-game stint in 1961. During this period, he was a dominant force with the Springfield Indians, scoring 82 points in 71 games in 1960. Tony Licari
Anthony Licari (April 9, 1921 – July 4, 2013) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played nine games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings during the 1946–47 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1941 to 1955, was mainly spent in various minor leagues. Playing career Born in Ottawa, Licari played high school hockey for Ottawa Technical School before joining the Perth Blue Wings junior team of the Ottawa City Hockey League. In 1940, he joined the Guelph Biltmores of the Ontario Hockey Association for one season. Licari turned professional in 1941 with the Dallas Texans of the American Hockey Association. Roy Lindsay Kellock, (November 12, 1893 – December 12, 1975) was a Canadian Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Born in Perth, Ontario, he graduated from McMaster University with a B.A. in 1915. Kellock was called to bar in 1920 and practised with the firm of WeirFoulds in Toronto. In 1942 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
