Perth Kangaroos IFC
Perth Kangaroos International Football Club is a now-defunct Association football, soccer club based in Perth, Western Australia. Perth Kangaroos played as an overseas team in the 1994 FAS Premier League, 1994 season of the FAS Premier League in Singapore and won the league title. The team was a forerunner of the Australian A-League soccer club Perth Glory FC, Perth Glory. History Perth Kangaroos was put together in 1994 by Global Football Australia, a consortium led by businessman Joe Claudio. Western Australia had been keen to be represented in Australia's National Soccer League (NSL) since it was formed in 1977, but a series of logistical problems and financial concerns meant that the league were not keen to include a Western Australian club. Macedonia Park, Perth
Macedonia Park is a multi-use stadium in Perth, Western Australia. It is mainly used for soccer and is the home ground for Stirling Macedonia. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people, however capacity will be capped at 4,500 for the 2022–23 A-League season. The ground was developed by the Macedonian Community of Western Australia in the mid-1980s after receiving federal government grants from the Hawke government. The stadium was built in conjunction with adjoining community facilities. Macedonia Park was officially opened in 1986, with Stirling Macedonia hosting Adelaide City in the first round of the 1986 NSL Cup in front of a crowd of 5,000. Darwin Cubs
Darwin Cubs is a now-defunct soccer club from Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The Cubs played as a foreign team in the Singapore Premier League in 1994 and finished runners-up to another Australian team, Perth Kangaroos IFC. The Cubs lost just three games for the season, two of those to the Kangaroos. The club also entered the Singapore league the following year, but had to withdraw mid-season due to financial difficulties. The Cubs' nickname was derived from the club's sponsorship with Carlton & United Breweries, whose mascot at the time was a cub (due to the initials of the brand). When the Darwin side was provided with a number of shirts featuring a cub mascot, the nickname was born and the team decided to keep it. The Cubs were managed by Frank Falzon. Perth Glory Football Club is an Australian professional soccer club based in Perth, Western Australia. It competes in the country's premier men's competition, A-League Men, under licence from Australian Professional Leagues. Founded in 1995, Perth Glory is one of three A-League clubs to survive from the now-defunct National Soccer League (NSL), playing their debut match in this competition in October 1996 for the 1996–97 season. Perth established itself as a major side within Australian soccer in the final seasons of this league, with managers Bernd Stange and Mich d'Avray leading the club to three league Premierships and two Championships from four grand final appearances within a five-season period. Gareth Naven (born 3 March 1969) is an Australian football coach and former player. He is currently the development officer at Football West and coach of Bayswater City SC in the NPL. Playing career Naven was born in 1969 in the English town of Wigan before his family moved to Perth, Australia. He was a junior with Gosnells but made his initial impact with Bayswater Inter in 1985. In the same year, he and his twin brother Craig were selected in the Australia Under-16 national team that reached the quarter-finals of the World Under-16 championship in China. In 1986 he received a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport. In 1987, Naven was a member of the Schoolboy Australia team that toured New Zealand.
