Person's Ordinary
Person's Ordinary is a historic inn and tavern located at Littleton, Halifax County, North Carolina. It dates to the mid- to late-18th century, and is a 1 1/2-story frame dwelling, three bays wide and two deep, with a massive exterior stone chimney at each end. It rests on a stone cellar, and has a modified Quaker plan. The building housed an inn and tavern for stagecoach travelers into the 1830s and is associated with Thomas Person, one of the state's most important political leaders from 1760 to 1790. Littleton, North Carolina
Littleton is a town in Halifax County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 674 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Littleton was named after William Little, a state senator at the time of founding. In 1882, Littleton College for women was founded with an initial enrollment of eleven students. The college became relatively successful with a peak enrollment of 285 in 1908. On January 22, 1919, the college was destroyed by fire, and without an endowment, it was never rebuilt. Person's Ordinary and St. Alban's Episcopal Church are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally Littleton was divided between the counties of Warren and Halifax, but on July 1, 1974 an election was made to make Littleton only to be a part of Halifax County. Thomas Person
Thomas Person (1733–1800) was an American politician, Anti-Federalist organizer, and brigadier general in command of the Hillsborough District Brigade of the North Carolina militia during the American Revolution. Early life Born January 19, 1733 in the Colony of Virginia to William and Ann Person. He married his cousin, Johanna Philpot; the two had no children, and his nephew William Person Little was adopted as his heir. General Thomas Person spent most of his life in service to Granville County, North Carolina. Pre-Revolution career In 1756, after several years working for Earl Granville as a surveyor, Thomas Person was recommended for the position of Justice of the Peace for Granville County.
