People's Movement For Latvia
Werner Joachim Siegerist (born as Werner-Joachim Bierbrauer, 29 January 1947) is a German-Latvian journalist, author and conservative politician. He is chairman of the anti-communist German Conservatives and co-publisher of the '' Konservative Deutsche Zeitung''. He played a role in the early days of renewed Latvian independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Siegerist was born in Neukirchen (Nordfriesland). His father was Latvian and his mother was originally from Wiesbaden and later moved to Schleswig-Holstein, where he grew up. He was active in the Junge Union and the Christlicher Gewerkschaftsbund. Between 1971 and 1973 he was a prominent journalist for the Bild-Zeitung, the biggest newspaper in Europe. In 1980 he founded the Bürgeraktion Demokraten für Strauß and campaigned for the candidacy of Franz Josef Strauss for Chancellor. German Conservatives
Die Deutschen Konservativen (''The German Conservatives'') is a German conservative anti-communist organisation, which developed out of a conservative campaign to support Franz Josef Strauß in the 1980 federal election. Formally established circa 1986, its President was former Berlin Senator for the Interior Heinrich Lummer, and the Chairman was the well-known journalist and later Latvian MP Joachim Siegerist. The organisation was fined in 1987 for "causing offence" to former Chancellor Willy Brandt, in their condemnation of what they saw as his appeasement policies towards communism. Latvian National Independence Movement
The Latvian National Independence Movement ( lv, Latvijas Nacionālās Neatkarības Kustība, LNNK) was a political organization in Latvia from 1988 until 1997. It formed in 1988 as the radical wing of Latvian nationalist movement. Unlike the mainstream Latvian Popular Front which originally supported more autonomy for Latvia within the Soviet Union, LNNK insisted on independence from its beginning. The leaders of LNNK included Eduards Berklavs, Aleksandrs Kiršteins, Andrejs Krastiņš, Einars Repše and Juris Dobelis. After Latvia regained independence, LNNK became a political party and renamed itself the National Conservative Party. It won 15 seats out of 100 in the 1993 parliamentary election and was an influential opposition party. In 1993 its candidate for Prime Minister was Joachim Siegerist, who lost by only one vote and ended up second. The Latvian Green Party ( lv, Latvijas Zaļā partija, LZP) is a green political party in Latvia. It was founded in 1990. It was a member of the European Green Party from 2003 until its expulsion in 2019.
