Oregon is a second-class township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The township's population was 781 at the time of the 2010 United States Census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 18.0 square miles (46.6 km2), of which 17.7 square miles (46 km2) is land and 0.3 square mile (1 km2) (1.67%) is water. The Wilkes University Election Statistics Project is a free online resource documenting Pennsylvania political election results dating back to 1796. Currently, the database documents Pennsylvania's county-level vote totals for President, Governor, United States Senator, and Congressional elections back to 1796. The database also contains directories for members of the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly and the Pennsylvania General Assembly, dating back to 1682. According to the database's designer, Wilkes University Professor Harold E. Cox, "No other state has anything like it." The project's impetus began in 1996, when Cox inquired about 19th century election statistics, only to find that the data would cost $1,000. The project has been cataloged by the Pennsylvania State University Libraries and the Van Pelt Library at the University of Pennsylvania. Montrose, Pennsylvania
Montrose is a borough in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, south-southeast of Binghamton, New York and north by west of Scranton. The land is elevated approximately 1,400 feet (427 m) above sea level. It is the Susquehanna County seat. History Montrose was laid out in 1812 in an area of Pennsylvania historically associated with the Indigenous Susquehannock people. The first non-Indigenous settler in 1800 was a Revolutionary War officer, Captain Bartlett Hinds, who traveled from Long Island, NY with his stepson, Isaac Post. Upon seeing the area's natural beauty and potential, he returned to NY to bring his family to Pennsylvania. Among other settlers were the descendants of Sir Peter Warren, Knight Vice Admiral on England's Royal Fleet. Upon retirement, he was given the land by grateful American soldiers. Sandra J. Major (born September 4, 1954) was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the 111th District between 1995 and 2017. Prior to her election to the House, she was Susquehanna County Treasurer and district assistant to former Representative Carmel Sirianni. Carmel Sirianni (September 14, 1922 – April 22, 1991) was an American politician who was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1974. Formative years Born in Old Forge, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1922, Sirianni was a daughter of John and Amelia (Pascoe) Sirianni. She earned a bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg University and a master's degree in education and guidance from Bucknell University. Starrucca, Pennsylvania
Starrucca ( ) is a borough that is located in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough's population was 173 at the time of the 2010 United States Census. History Starrucca was named after the founder's horse, which he rode as he surveyed the land. The historic Stone Arch Bridge over Starrucca Creek was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 1, 1979, and was delisted on May 8, 1986, after being demolished. In 2003, Dennis and Donna Corrigan were honored by the Wayne County Historical Society with its Historic Preservation Award for their restoration of the Major Elisha Strong House in Starrucca.
