Ana Pellicer
Ana Emilia Pellicer López de Llergo (born 1946) is a Mexican sculptor, artisan and jewelry maker. She is the widow of American sculptor, James Metcalf, with whom she established an important artist colony and school, the Adolfo Best Maugard School of Arts and Crafts, dedicated to the promotion of traditional coppersmith techniques in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, in 1973. In 1986, Pellicer sculpted life size jewelry designed to fit the Statue of Liberty, including huge earrings, to mark the centenary of the statue in New York City and Paris. Ana Pellicer was awarded the Gertrudis Bocanegra medal in 2018, this award is given to women who do exceptional work in favor of the progress of the state of Michoacán. Part of this work was performed during her first years living in Santa Clara del Cobre, where she encouraged women to become involved in the production of jewelry, thus helping them improve their economic standing and that of their families. Carlos Pellicer
Carlos Pellicer Cámara (10 January 1897 – 16 February 1977) was part of the first wave of modernist Mexican poets and was active in the promotion of Mexican art, pictures, and literature. An enthusiastic traveler, his work is filled with depictions of nature and a certain sexual energy that is shared with his contemporary Octavio Paz. Biography Pellicer was born in Villahermosa on 10 January 1897. The young Pellicer studied in Mexico City. In August 1921, along with Vicente Lombardo Toledano, Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and Xavier Guerrero, he founded the Grupo Solidario del Movimiento Obrero ("Solidarity Group of the Workers' Movement"). He lectured in modern poetry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and served as the director of the Department of Fine Arts. María del Pilar Pellicer López de Llergo (12 February 1938 – 16 May 2020) was a Mexican actress. At the 17th Ariel Awards, she won the Ariel Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film ''La Choca'' (1974). Biography Pilar was daughter of lawyer César Pellicer Sánchez and wife María del Pilar López de Llergo, both from Tabasco.
