Peene
The Peene () is a river in Germany. Geography The Westpeene, with the Ostpeene as its longer tributary, and the Kleine Peene/Teterower Peene (with a ''Peene '' without specification (or ''Nordpeene'') as its smaller and shorter affluent) flows into Kummerower See (Lake Kummerow), and from there as Peene proper to Anklam and into the Oder Lagoon. The western branch of the Oder River, which separates the island of Usedom from the German mainland, is often also called Peene, but actually is considered a part of the Baltic Sea called the Peenestrom. It is one of three channels connecting the Oder Lagoon with the Bay of Pomerania of the Baltic Sea. (The other channels are the Świna and the Dziwna.) Peene Becque
The Peene Becque (West Flemish: Penebeke) is a small river in the Nord (French department), Nord department in France. It is long. The word ''Peene'' may be related to the modern Dutch word ''Peen'' that refers to the wild carrot plant (''Daucus carota''), while ''becque'' is the transliteration of the Dutch language, Dutch word ''beek'', referring to a small stream (compare the English word ''beck''). The Peene Becque has its source in Sainte-Marie-Cappel, south of Mont Cassel, flows first west through Oxelaëre and Bavinchove, then takes a north-eastern direction through Zuytpeene, Noordpeene, Ochtezeele, Arnèke, Ledringhem, Wormhout and Wylder where it ends its course by flowing into the Franco-Belgian river Yser. The Peene Becque constitutes a natural border between the villages of Arnèke and Ledringhem (to the south), between Ledringhem and Zermezeele and between Ledringhem and Wormhout. Peene, Kent
Newington is a village in the English county of Kent located north-west of Folkestone. It gives its name to Newington-Shepway Parish Council, which has five councillors, and includes the hamlets of Arpinge and Beachborough. The village lies to the north of the M20 motorway and the A20 road; the Channel Tunnel complex is nearby. The ecclesiastical parish was known as ''Newington-next-Hythe'', the latter town being to the south-west; the parish church is dedicated to St Nicholas. Hippoliet Van Peene
Hippoliet Jan Van Peene (1 January 1811 in Kaprijke – 19 February 1864 in Ghent) was a Flemish physician and playwright. He studied medicine at the State University of Leuven and became a physician in Kaprijke and later in Ghent. In 1847 he wrote the lyrics of the Flemish anthem "De Vlaamse Leeuw "" (; The Flemish Lion) is the official anthem of Flanders, a region and community in Belgium. Composition The words of this anthem were written in July 1847 by Hippoliet Van Peene (1811–1864) who was clearly inspired by the song ''Sie s ..." of which the music was composed by Karel Miry. He was the first modern Flemish playwright and he wrote 35 theatre plays, which in his time were performed by ''Broedermin en Taelyver'' in Ghent. At the inauguration of the Minard Theatre in 1847, his ''Brigitta of de Twee Vondelingen'' was performed.
