Peebles ( gd, Na Pùballan) is a town in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. It was historically a royal burgh and the county town of Peeblesshire. According to the 2011 census, the population was 8,376 and the estimated population in June 2018 was 9,000. History Initially, a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen industry of the Borders during the 19th and early-20th centuries. Most mills closed by the 1960s, although the last one remained open until 2015. The character of Peebles has changed; the town serves as home to many people who commute to work in Edinburgh, as well as being a popular tourist destination, especially in the summer. In the mid-to-late 19th century health tourism flourished, centring on hydropathic establishments, which over time morphed into a hotel format, with Peebles Hydro Hotel being one of the few survivors of that era. Peebles is a village in Meigs Township, Adams County, Ohio, United States. It is sixty-four miles east of Cincinnati. The population was 1,782 at the 2010 census. History Peebles was founded in 1881 with the building of the railroad through that territory. It was named for John G. Peebles, who was instrumental in bringing the railroad to the settlement. Peebles, Wisconsin (pronounced Pēbles) is an unincorporated community in the Town of Taycheedah in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. The community is located adjacent to the unincorporated community of Taycheedah. U.S. Route 151 runs through the community. Wisconsin Highway 149 used to run through the community at its western terminus until it was decommissioned in 2006. Peebles' Corner Historic District
Peebles' Corner Historic District is a registered historic district surrounding the intersection of East McMillan Street and Gilbert Avenue in the neighborhood of Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 14, 1985. Beginning in 1883, the northeast corner was the site of the first branch of the Joseph R. Peebles' Sons Co. grocery store. The name Peebles' Corner caught on with the public when the store owners persuaded conductors to announce their store as a stop on Cincinnati streetcars. The intersection served (and still serves) as a key cross-town transit transfer point in the city. The intersection had previously been called Kay's Corner, after the W. L. North Otago in New Zealand covers the area of Otago between Shag Point and the Waitaki River, and extends inland to the west as far as the village of Omarama (which has experienced rapid growth as a developing centre for astronomy and for gliding). Peebles Hospital is the main public hospital in the British Virgin Islands. The hospital is located in the capital, Road Town, on the island of Tortola. It was founded in 1922 by Major H.W. Peebles, and was originally known as the Cottage Hospital. The main hospital building six stories plus a mechanical penthouse, with 168,700 square feet of floor space. It has facilities for patient care, surgery, and recovery, and an intensive care unit. Name In the 1950s the hospital was renamed after Major Peebles.
