Pedro Castillo
José Pedro Castillo Terrones (; born 19 October 1969) is a Peruvian politician, former elementary school teacher, and union leader who served as the president of Peru, President of Peru from 28 July 2021 to 7 December 2022. On 7 December 2022, he was impeached and removed from office by the Congress of Peru after 2022 Peruvian self-coup attempt, attempting a self-coup. Born to a peasant family in Puña, Department of Cajamarca, Cajamarca, Castillo began working in Peru's informal economy as a teenager to earn funds for his studies in education and later returned to his hometown to become a primary school teacher. Vladimir Cerrón
Vladimir Roy Cerrón Rojas (born 16 December 1970) is a Peruvian neurosurgeon and Marxist-Leninist politician who served as the regional Governor of Junin from 2011 to 2014 and in 2019. His second term was suspended early due to a prior criminal conviction. He is the founder and Secretary General of the Free Peru party which won the plurality of seats in the 2021 Peruvian general election. Cerrón was also initially the candidate for Second Vice President of Peru on Pedro Castillo's eventually winning presidential ticket, but was removed as the candidate before the election due to his conviction on criminal charges of corruption. 2021 Peruvian General Election
General elections were held in Peru on 11 April 2021. The presidential election, which determined the President of Peru, president and the Vice President of Peru, vice presidents, required a run-off between the two top candidates, which was held on 6 June. 2022 Peruvian Self-coup Attempt
On 7 December 2022, President of Peru Pedro Castillo attempted to dissolve Congress in the face of imminent impeachment proceedings by the legislative body because of profiting off of government contracts, immediately enacting a curfew, establishing an emergency government and calling for a constituent assembly. The act was recognized by politicians, the Constitutional Court of Peru and media as a coup d'état, with some comparing it to the ''autogolpe'' of Alberto Fujimori during the 1992 Peruvian self-coup d'état. Numerous members of Castillo's government resigned from their positions shortly after he announced the dissolution of Congress, and the Peruvian Armed Forces also refused to support his actions.
