Peculiar Hole In The Sky
"Peculiar Hole in the Sky" is a song written by Harry Vanda and George Young. It was originally recorded by the Australian rock group the Easybeats in 1967, but left unreleased until 1969. The song would later be given to Australian rock group, The Valentines, which included singer Bon Scott, who would later join George Young's brothers Malcolm Young and Angus Young in AC/DC. The Valentines version would be released in August 1968. The Valentines (rock Band)
The Valentines were an Australian pop band active from 1966–1970, chiefly noted for their lead singers, Bon Scott, who later went on to great success as lead vocalist with AC/DC; and Vince Lovegrove, who subsequently became a successful music journalist and manager of Divinyls. Band history The band was formed in late 1966 with the amalgamation of Perth groups The Spektors and The Winstons. They capitalised on the success of both the former bands, plus the interest created by having two lead singers in Scott and Lovegrove. Inspired by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and local stars The Easybeats, they enjoyed considerable local success and released a few singles. ''The Best of The Easybeats Volume 2'' is the second compilation album by the Australian rock group The Easybeats. The album was first released on October 9, 1969 by the group's Australian label Albert Productions. The compilation album was released to coincide with the band's 1969 Australian tour. The compilation was later re-issued on the budget Drum label in 1974. It has never been officially issued on compact disc or digitally. However, the songs not released on their original studio albums, can be found on CD throughout the Repertoire reissues of ''Friday On My Mind'', ''Vigil'' and the bonus tracks of the '' Friends'' CD. Reception On release, the album received mixed reviews from the music press due to its use of "demo" recordings, on the album's first side. ''GTK'' (standing for "Get to Know") was an Australian popular music TV series of ten minute episodes, produced and broadcast by ABC Television from 1969 to 1975. History The series title was an initialism of the phrase "Get To Know". Officially, it was said that ''GTK'' was created by the ABC to address the perception that the Australian youth audience was being poorly served by commercial radio and TV, and that international music and especially Australian popular music was being ignored by commercial TV and radio at that time. Ken Watts, ABC's Director of Television, had a problem at 6:30pm time slot. Because ABC-TV was non-commercial, 30-minute American programs only ran 24'30" without ad breaks, which created a programming problem when the commercial networks started their news broadcasts. Pye Records was a British record label. The Easybeats
The Easybeats were an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in late 1964. They enjoyed a level of success that in Australia rivalled The Beatles. They became the first Australian rock act to score an international hit, with the 1966 single " Friday on My Mind", as well as one of the few in Australia to foreground their original material. During their six-year run, they scored 15 top 40 hits in Australia, including "She's So Fine" and " Women (Make You Feel Alright)", with other No. 1 hits including "Friday on My Mind" and " Sorry". They broke up in 1969, and reformed for one tour in 1986. Singer Stevie Wright died in 2015 and rhythm guitarist George Young died in 2017.
