Pavão, Minas Gerais
Pavão is a Brazilian municipality located in the northeast of the state of Minas Gerais. Its population as of 2020 was estimated to be 8,419 people living in a total area of 599 km2. The city belongs to the mesoregion of Vale do Mucuri and to the micro-region of Teófilo Otoni. It became a municipality in 1962. Pavão is located at an elevation of 228 meters, 108 km. northeast of Teófilo Otoni. The distance to the state capital, Belo Horizonte, is 545 km. Neighboring municipalities are: Novo Oriente de Minas, Crisólita, Carlos Chagas, and Teófilo Otoni. The main economic activities are services, small industries, and agriculture. A large percentage of the population lives in the rural area and is engaged in subsistence farming. The GDP in 2005 was approximately R$25 million, with 14 million Reais from services, 1 million Reais from industry, and 8 million Reais from agriculture. Figueira Pavão is a settlement in the southeastern part of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde. In 2010 its population was 320. Fernando Pascoal Neves (12 July 1947 – 16 December 1973), commonly known as Pavão, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a central midfielder for FC Porto in the Primeira Liga. Career Born in Chaves, Pavão began playing football in his local team Chaves. In 1964 he entered Porto's youth academy and after one season, joined the senior team eventually playing for the club his entire professional career. In December 1973, he collapsed after completing a pass during the 13th minute of a league match against Vitória Setúbal at Estádio das Antas, dying of a heart attack at age 26. Marcelo Pereira Moreira, commonly known as Pavão (born April 15, 1974), is a retired association footballer who played as a right back for several Brazilian Série A clubs. Career Born in Recife, Pavão started his professional career playing with São Paulo in 1993, being promoted from the youth team. With São Paulo, he played 24 Série A games without scoring a goal between 1993 and 1995. He left São Paulo in 1995, joining Atlético Paranaense in 1996. After playing for Rio Branco-SP and Atlético Goianiense respectively in 1996 and in 1997, he left Brazil to play for Austrian club Austria Lustenau from 1997 to 1999, and Tenerife Tenerife (; ; formerly spelled ''Teneriffe'') is the largest and most populous island of the Canary Islands.
