Pauline Revere Thayer
Pauline Revere Thayer (1862–1934) worked to improve immigrant conditions in Massachusetts and the US; represented Massachusetts in Republican party activities; and founded the Chilton Club in Boston in 1910. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1860 to Paul Revere III, she was a direct descendant of Paul Revere, and in that capacity performed civic and honorary duties in his memory. She married businessman Nathaniel Thayer III in 1887. Throughout her life, she pursued charitable endeavors. In 1896 she was treasurer of the Committee of Women of the Massachusetts Volunteer Aid Association, contributing to efforts benefitting American soldiers in the Spanish–American War. She also donated funds to the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1910 she founded the private women's Chilton Club in Boston. Lancaster, Massachusetts
Lancaster is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, in the United States. Incorporated in 1653, Lancaster is the oldest town in Worcester County. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 8,441. History In 1643 Lancaster was first settled as "Nashaway" (named after the local Nashaway Native American tribe) by a group of colonists known as the Nashaway Company who may have initially been interested in iron deposits in the area. Several of the company were blacksmiths or gunsmiths, including, Herman Garrett, and as early as 1653 a settler, George Adams, was whipped for selling guns and alcohol to the Indians in the area. The town was officially incorporated and renamed "Lancaster on the Nashua" in 1653. Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964) was an American politician who served as the 31st president of the United States from 1929 to 1933 and a member of the Republican Party, holding office during the onset of the Great Depression in the United States. Chilton Club
The Chilton Club is a private social club established in 1910, in the Back Bay area of Boston, Massachusetts. Founded by Pauline Revere Thayer, the club was intended in part as a counterpoint to the Mayflower Club. The club was named after Mary Chilton because she had been the first woman to step out of the Mayflower. The club occupies a large red brick building on Commonwealth Avenue, designed in 1870 by architect "Henry Richards of the firm of Ware and Van Brunt." (However, some claim the building was designed by architects Peabody and Stearns.)
