Paul Whiteman's Goodyear Revue
''Paul Whiteman's Goodyear Revue'' is an American television variety series. The show aired on ABC on Sunday evenings from November 6, 1949 through March 30, 1952 hosted by Paul Whiteman. Overview The show was hosted by band leader Paul Whiteman at the same time as he was also hosting a Saturday talent show called '' Paul Whiteman's TV Teen Club''. The ''Goodyear Revue'', sponsored by Goodyear, also showcased Junie Keegan from the ''TV Teen Club''. The show was a typical variety show, with several well-known performers of the time making appearances. Performers who appeared on the show included Risë Stevens, the Vienna Boys' Choir, Victor Borge, Jane Froman, Mel Tormé, Charles Laughton, Mindy Carson, and Peggy Lee. Singers Earl Wrightson and Maureen Cannon were regulars late in the show's run. Jane Froman
Ellen Jane Froman (November 10, 1907 – April 22, 1980) was an American actress and singer. During her thirty-year career, she performed on stage, radio and television despite chronic health problems due to injuries sustained in a 1943 plane crash. Her life story was told in the 1952 film '' With a Song in My Heart''. She was portrayed by Susan Hayward, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. Early life and education Ellen Jane Froman was born in University City, Missouri, the daughter of Anna Tillman ( Barcafer) and Elmer Ellsworth Froman. Her childhood and adolescence were spent in the small Missouri town of Clinton. Maureen Catherine Cannon (December 3, 1924 - September 4, 2004) was an American singer and actress. Early years Maureen Catherine Cannon was born in Chicago, the daughter of immigrants from Ireland. Her father, Edward Cannon, was a streetcar conductor in Chicago. She had a theatrical background on her mother, Bridget's, side; her grandfather was a singer and dancer. Cannon began studying tap dancing when she was nine years old, and she and her brother, Edward, formed an amateur dance team. By age 12, however, she "decided there was nothing in it" and focused her attention on singing instead. She gave her first concert years later. Her voice attracted the attention of Chicago impresario Paul Longone when she was 15 years old. Earl Wrightson (January 1, 1916 – March 7, 1993) was an American singer and actor best known for musical theatre, concerts and television performances. His regular singing partner was the soprano Lois Hunt. Early life and career Wrightson was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of a Methodist minister.
