Paul Scott-Lee
Sir Paul Joseph Scott-Lee QPM DL is a retired British police officer who served as Chief Constable of Suffolk Constabulary and West Midlands Police. Early life and career Scott-Lee was born in Coventry, and educated at Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School. Scott-Lee joined Warwickshire and Coventry Constabulary on direct from school, and on amalgamation of local forces to form the West Midlands Police in 1974, he rose to the rank of Chief Inspector. Promoted to Superintendent in 1988 in Northamptonshire Police, he became an area commander and latterly allocated to headquarters on both corporate planning and quality assurance. He then became assistant chief constable in August 1992 in Kent Constabulary, responsible for all personnel and training matters. Queen's Police Medal
The King's Police Medal (KPM) is awarded to police in the United Kingdom for gallantry or distinguished service. It was also formerly awarded within the wider British Empire, including Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, most of which now have their own honours systems. The medal was established on 7 July 1909 as the King's Police Medal (KPM), initially inspired by the need to recognise the gallantry of the police officers involved in the Tottenham Outrage. Renamed the King's Police and Fire Services Medal (KPFSM) in 1940, it was replaced on 19 May 1954 by the Queen's Police Medal (QPM), when a separate Queen's Fire Service Medal was also instituted. The current award was renamed the King's Police Medal following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 and the accession of King Charles III to the throne of the United Kingdom. Christopher Peter Sims OBE, QPM, DL is the former Chief Constable of West Midlands Police (WMP), England's second largest and the United Kingdom's third largest police force. Police career Sims began his policing career in 1980 with the Metropolitan Police force, rising to the rank of chief inspector. He moved to Staffordshire Police in 1994 on promotion to superintendent. He worked in the professional standards unit, helped establish the performance development team, worked in CID at headquarters and spent a short time as divisional commander at Wombourne before taking up the role of divisional commander at Hanley. Edward Crewe
Sir Edward Crew (born 13 January 1946) was the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police from 1993-1996, and of West Midlands Police from August 1996 – 2002. Sir Edward Crew joined the Metropolitan Police as a Cadet age 16 in 1965. He rose through the ranks to chief superintendent and was appointed to Kent County Constabulary where he served as an assistant and the deputy chief constable. In 1988 he attended the Royal College of Defence Studies. In 1993 he was appointed chief constable of Northamptonshire Police and in 1996 he was appointed chief constable for the West Midlands. He was awarded the Queen's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1990 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant on 8 October 1999. Operation Gamble
The 2007 plot to behead a British Muslim soldier was a plot in Birmingham, England, to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier in order to undermine the morale of the British Army and inhibit its recruitment of Muslims. The instigator, Parviz Khan, admitted the plot and was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve at least 14 years. Another of the accused was found guilty of failing to report the plot and four others were sentenced to up to seven years for supplying equipment to Pakistan-based militants fighting coalition forces in Afghanistan.
