Paul Morgan (rugby League)
Paul "Porky" Morgan (died 26 January 2001) was an Australian rugby league footballer, administrator and businessman. He is remembered for being co-founder of the Brisbane Broncos club. The Paul Morgan Medal for the Brisbane Broncos' best and fairest player of the season is named after him. He is best remembered as improving the conditions of players of the game of rugby league in Australia and was the key architect of the Super League concept. Footballer Morgan attended Brisbane State High School where he was a pupil of former Queensland Maroons captain, Cyril Connell, Jr. Morgan represented Queensland in rugby league in his first year out of school and went on to play for the Bulimba Cup-winning Toowoomba team of 1970 alongside Wayne Bennett (rugby league), Wayne Bennett. Bob Hagan (rugby League)
Bob Hagan (born 8 January 1940) is an Australian former rugby league footballer, and coach. He played for Easts (Brisbane) in Queensland and for Canterbury-Bankstown in New South Wales, representing both states as well as playing for the Australian national side, he also played for Huddersfield in England. He is the older brother (not the father) of rugby league player and coach, Mick Hagan. Playing career Hagan represented the Commonwealth XIII rugby league team while at Huddersfield in 1965 against New Zealand at Crystal Palace National Recreation Centre, London on Wednesday 18 August 1965. He played for Canterbury-Bankstown in their 1967 NSWRL grand final defeat against South Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Post playing Hagan coached Canterbury-Bankstown in 1970-71 and was later a board member under club stalwart Peter Moore. The Queensland Cup, currently known as the Hostplus Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the highest-level regional rugby league football competition in Queensland, Australia. It is run by the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) and is contested by fourteen teams, twelve of which are based in Queensland, with one based in New South Wales and one in Central Province, Papua New Guinea. 2001 World Club Challenge
The 2001 World Club Challenge was contested between Super League V champions, St. Helens and 2000 NRL season premiers, the Brisbane Broncos. The Broncos made the trip to England to play St Helens before the start of the 2001 NRL and Super League seasons and were beaten by two late drop goals (known as a field goal in Australia, but not to be confused with the archaic field goal) from the home side in the final minutes. The 1995 ARL premiership was the 88th season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the first to be run by the Australian Rugby League following the hand-over of the Premiership's administration by the New South Wales Rugby League. The Gold Coast Chargers were a professional rugby league club which played in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership from 1988 to 1994, the Australian Rugby League premiership from 1995 to 1997, and the National Rugby League premiership in 1998. They first played under the name Gold Coast-Tweed Giants (in silver, black and white colours) from 1988 to 1989, then Gold Coast Seagulls (wearing white, black and red) from 1990 to 1995, very briefly as the Gold Coast Gladiators and finally Gold Coast Chargers (in jade, black, purple and gold uniforms) from 1996 to 1998. Ken Arthurson
Kenneth Richard "Arko" Arthurson AM (born 1 October 1929) is an Australian rugby league football identity. Affectionately known as "The Godfather of Manly", he played, coached and was later an administrator at the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles club in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership. The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL), formerly the Australian Rugby Football League known as the Australian Rugby League is an Australian rugby league football competition operator.
