Paul Michael Kennedy (born 17 June 1945) is a British historian specialising in the history of international relations, economic power and grand strategy. He has published prominent books on the history of British foreign policy and great power struggles. He emphasises the changing economic power base that undergirds military and naval strength, noting how declining economic power leads to reduced military and diplomatic weight. Life Kennedy was born in Wallsend, Northumberland, and attended St. Cuthbert's Grammar School in Newcastle upon Tyne. Subsequently, he graduated with first-class honours in history from Newcastle University and obtained his doctorate from St. Antony's College, Oxford, under the supervision of A. J. P. Taylor and John Andrew Gallagher. Sir Paul Joseph Morrow Kennedy (born 1935) is an English jurist. He is a former vice-president of the King's Bench Division, Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales, and former Interception of Communications Commissioner. Life Kennedy was born in northern England in Sheffield, Yorkshire, on 12 June 1935. He studied at Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire, then at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, Caius College at University of Cambridge, Cambridge and received his final law training at Sheffield University. In 1960 Kennedy was Call to the bar, admitted to legal practice as a barrister via Gray's Inn, and in 1973 he took silk (became Queen's Counsel). From 1971 to 1983 Kennedy served as the recorder on the Northern Circuit, North Eastern Circuit. Paul Kennedy is a former member of the New Mexico Supreme Court, appointed by Governor Susana Martinez. Kennedy had previously served on the court under appointment from Governor Gary E. Johnson. After serving as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, Kennedy used a Fulbright Scholarship to earn a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University. Paul Kennedy is a broadcast journalist who works at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He is a veteran broadcaster and award-winning documentarist, and is best known for being the host of the program ''Ideas'' on CBC Radio One from 1999 to his retirement in 2019. In 1977, he researched and wrote his first documentary segment (on the subject of the fur trade), titled ''The Fur Trade Revisited''. This was featured in an ''Ideas'' series entitled Red Man, White World. While hosting ''Ideas'', Kennedy continued to do documentary work.
